Let say a bone stock 03 z06 dyno's 360rwhp which is very well possible. If you take 360 divided by .85(drive train loss) you'll get 423. It's safe to say the LS6 might be a tad underrated, but to put an exact number on it is pretty tough.

They are probably closer to 425 then 405 crank hp i think. Probably in the 415 range.

Whatever the number is, it's not enough.

There is usually always some conservatism added to the factory numbers. This is sometimes done to avoid scrutiny if it doesnt make those numbers (think of when the rx-8 came out, and they then had to come back later and say they were wrong about the power, and downgrade it) as well as emissions/ gov't regulations, etc...

Furthermore trying to back calculate an estimated drivetrain loss is often silly, and unless substantiated, is worthless.

But most of all, it doesnt matter. The power to the wheels is all that really matters, not what the crank sees. So if you want to know how much power you have, strap it to a dyno and talk about your Wheel hp.

I believe the horsepower ratings these days are with all the accessories attached. (Alternator, etc.) So if you were to run a stock LS6 (405 hp) on an engine dyno sans accessories, it seems likely it would put out about 425.

based off some random "guess" at drivetrain loss? Some random guess that someone said in a thread somewhere, and it spread around so people just use it, not knowing if it is factual or not?

Only kids and salesmen talk about crank hp, people who drive, or make power, talk about wheel hp, or timeslips

While I agree with your opinion and comments, it's widely known and accepted that an manual trans car will loose 12-15% thru the drive line and an auto will loose 15-20%. A good percentage of the loss is with the hypoid type rear gears.

I agree. My problem with it, is that I have seen no actual substantation, such as running on an engine dyno, then on a chassis dyno and calculating the difference.

I am a firm believer in not just believing what I read on the internet, especially just a public forum. For example, if you read on this forum, a lot of people will try to tell you the 01 zo6 wheels were the lightest Or that they are made out of magnesium Or in another thread I replied to this week, that an A/F ratio of 12.6 on an n/a car is lean

The power should be as rated. These tests are now conducted per SAE standards. Because some used to take off belts and other such crap. All manufactuers use the same standards.

Power loss percentage is around 10-12%. 15% is pushing it a bit.
