I have an 02 Z, and am looking too add some power. I have been considering either a A&A Vortech kit, or heads, cams & intake. Any help or advice which is a better way to go for the most streetable power. It will have to pass California emissions. Thanks for any/all help.
if it is completely stock put some long tubes on it with an intake. that will liven it up A LOT. if you've got the dough, throw a supercharger and long tubes on it
Thanks for the advice, but I thought the long tubes were not legal in CA. I know they weren't on my Mustang. The car will get a custom tune regardless of which way I decide to go. So far the engine is stock with intake and partial exhaust.

They aren't...didn't know you were in CA. You could go with B&B shorties (50 state legal) and theres a good selection of S/C kits that come with a CARB EO# as well.
I would leave the car stock and go FI. I've owned head/cam(overhead cams) mustangs, and blown mustangs. I have posted a few threads that will help you out.
When my car was in California, it was making 541 rwhp through manifolds and cats with an A&A system and passed emissions with flying colors! If you have the money for a blower, go for it! I have a Procharger P1SC-1 kit which is CARB legal.
Thanks again for the advice, I am leaning towards the s/c, especially after reading the first post by winters97gt. It seems more people perfer the s/c over a h/c. Eventually I want either a 408 or 427, but until that time I want something ti hold me over.
Same principal, LT Headers have the smog connections and bolt right up, there just not legal in CA. Same issue with the cats. Hence if you C/O your motor, you would need to reinstall the same specific motor, unless something has changed legally that I don't know about. Some S/C’s are CARB legal but to really make them perform- headers, larger injectors, fuel pump pressures added- make the world of the difference.
