Default Mail tune question

I am planning to have a ECS mail tune. Doug has been great.

But I have a question, I live in Oregon and we see more cool/cold weather than HOT. SO should I have Doug skip the "Fan temps are lowered so you will not see the 220's while sitting"?
I am concerned this may slow the engine warm up on cold days.

Advice would be appreciated

Call ECS and ask them. They'll help you figure this out.

Since they are doing the tune, they can give you the best advice.

Thanks,

But I was wondering what others who have changed their fan set points experienced in cool/cold weather?

your thermostat controls minimum temps so it will still
warm up to that level - fans only keep temp down at
the upper range .. seems to me if you have the proper
thermostat for your area (stock is what, 190?) you'd
be fine even if the tune has reduced the fan temps
some.

Hi Jim:
Doug just did my tune near my home last Sunday..A great guy to deal with & very knowedgeable about the corvette.
He asked if it was stock.I told him my 01 was stock except for the iriduim plugs gapped at .040 & I installed a new stock thermostat housing 2 years ago. ( My stat had 186 f stamped into the housing gm p/n 12571261).I said I drive this car some times in the winter when their is no snow or salt on the roads.( thinking about the warm up time & how this would effect the heater operation). My car runs a 100% better & no shift light to deal with.He set my low speed fans to come on at 185 to keep my engine out of the 220s at idle in the summer time. I think he said for high speed 195.Well it has been cool here with only a few days getting to 75. So I,ll have to wait until summer returns to see if I stay out of the 220s. Running a steady 195 at h/way speeds regardless of temps.
Loving the tune.

Im in NJ and I have full ECS tune with 160 stat all year around..Winter months...no issues on warm up, still cruises at 180deg and 190deg sitting in traffic.

Yepper. Heat up is the same, level off temp is different. 180 is 180 whether it is on the way to 190 or on the way to 230.

The fans coming on at lower temps will not cause the car to warm up at any slower rate. The thermostat is the controlling factor as to when the hot coolant in the engine gets moved into the rdiator in exchange for the cooler coolant there. Since in the stock C5 the fans do not come on until 225 (unless you have the AC running) the car can get up to 228 or so before the temps come down and bottom out at 219 before going back up. If you stay with the stock thermostat and have the fans come on low speed at say 207 and at high speed at say 217 the car will simply stay cooler in traffic. The fans are shut off at speeds above 35mph anyway. I have my fans set at about the above temps and I never see engine temps above 207 even on the hottest day sitting in traffic but the car warms up the same as it always has.

Like others stated, the thermostat will keep the car at it's temp rating regardless of what the fans are set at. From the factory, the fans are set to come on at 226 for the low speed, and 235 for the high speed. We lower them down closer to the temp rating of the thermostat so you do not see the 220's+ that you can see from stock. At those high temps, the car is pulling back a good amount of power, and there's just no fun in that!

Thanks guys!

Kudos to the OP "jrprich" , great question that made me stop and think like I'm sure others did. Great information, and thanks Doug for your direct input as well. This is what makes CF the #1 place to ask!! ...Thanks, "pear"
