I have straight and x Pipe exhaust,
but a ****ty cone filter that came with the car.
Which is more recommended for Quebec roads that have much more debris and garbage on the roads than Marvelous USA.
Vararam?
Or go cheap and get a twin chrome cone (mine is crushed, single and goes straight down)
K&N so expensive, why???
Does the power duct help?
Bang for buck,
What to recomend?
If an early year (1997-2000), I would recommend a 2002 or later ZO6 air filter top and a paper filter. Reasons, the early air filter tops were very restrictive and a paper filter is by far the best filtering media (doesn't cost HP either), with this there is no water ingestion problems.
vararams are nice but remember ANY resistance (any bend, corner, etc.) the shorter the better. adding 1 90 degree bend to an intake tube is like adding 3ft of strait pipe. also that there is about a 1" buffer of stagnant air that sits in front of your car at speed (why ram air hoods with intakes up on hood work.) the BIG thing to look for is any intake that is using air from outside the engine compartment, there's a usually a 30-40HP diff....check out callaway honker also.

Which system produces that much horsepower?

WOW!! 30-40HP from just an intake? Which one does that? I gotta get me one of those!
Another vote for Vararam! The Vararam is suppose to add up to 40hp, HOWEVER, this is at speed where air is being forced into the engine, not when you are sitting in a parking lot revving the engine. If you do get the ram, add screens to the intake such as Z06 screens!

i mean using air from under the hood like a stock intake and an intake that uses air from out side engine compartment..i.e. the vararam, hoonker, or the cyclone i think its called the clear box with cylinder filter in it.
now remember dyno runs are usually done with your hood open so u don't SEE the diff. but i have seen the testing on a dyno(hood up, then down) and drag strip we used all the intakes talked about in this thread...and the intakes that are "cold air"(outside engine bay) way out perform the strait bolt in filters that use the air from under your hood that ur engine makes hot. not to say any are bad there ALL better than stock there is just different lvl's of better

But which ones produce 30-40hp that you mentioned above?
The highly touted VARARAM and HONKER produce approx. 16-18hp according to which ad or article you read.
Most performance modification horsepower improvements are achieved at rpm levels that few street cars operate at...at least for any sustained period of time. And then they require a tune to actually see full benefit. So, is it the modification or the tune that increases the performance?
Otherwise, owners do it mostly for appearance, sound, bragging rights or bench racing.

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
