Default One more time...disabling DRL's?????

OK....I've read several things that you can supposedly do to turn off the DRL's.

1. Pull relays # 38 and #40 in the fuse box under the passenger side footwell and either "fix' them so they don't carry a current or making a "double-ended wire to stick in the empty slot in the fuse box (not sure what exactly that does...why not just pull the two relays and leave them out?) If anyone can explain that I would appreciate it.

2. Pull the #2 fuse in the fuse box next to the battery under the hood. Several people said that if you do that it will also disable other lighting functions. Could someone explain exactly what other lighting functions will be affected by pulling this fuse...and how these functions will be affected?

3. Clicking the emergency brake up one click. I did try that and it didn't work. Is there any secret to doing that? In fact I clicked it up two clicks and the DRL's were still on. Assuming this method would work if someone can tell me what I am doing wrong, does clicking the emergency brake up a click do anything bad to the emergency brake? I know the idiot light on the dash comes on when you do it.

I just spent considerable time and money replacing the two front lenses/housing, two turn signal bulb sockets and putting in two new bulbs to get rid of the problem caused when the original sockets and housings were cracked/damaged due to the heat produced by these bulbs from the first time. I don't want to worry about it again.

I tried LED bulbs (3157 amber LED's) but they were too high and wouldn't fit in the housing when I tried to insert the socket/bulb in.

Any information/help would be appreciated.

Just pull the fuse, the only thing it also effects is that your back up lamps will not flash when unlocking the doors with your key fob.

When you pulled the relays did you put anything in in place of them like they did in this link?

Obviously it's your choice but I never understood the reason why people want them off, it's not as if you know they're even on and all it does it add a bit of extra safety. Oh well.

You haven't been following the big picture here. I've replaced these bulbs 3 times on each side in the past two years. They burn too hot and eventually cause the top of the housing their in to crack. Then when water get up inside that area it leaks down into the housing, hits the bulb, cracks it and voila! Gotta replace it again.

This has happened to the housing on both sides.

In addition, the sockets the bulbs plug into have gotten corroded and burned as well.

I just replaced both housings $79 for parts, both sockets, $75 for parts and 2 new bulbs for $7.

Now that eveything is back to new I don't want the problem to occur again.

I tried replacing the bulbs with LED amber bulbs (3157) but they were too high and didn't fit. They would have bulbed cooler and solved the problem.

So that's why I want to consider turning the DRL's off. Personally I like their look but I don't want a reoccurance of the same problem again.

Amber DRLs are illegal in the UK so I did the relay mod a few years ago. No trouble at all with burned out bulbs or cracked housings.

Heres the link. Its the CLB of the DRL world

Yea....already did the CLB thing. That's finally solved! Like I said I don't really want to go through all those steps as shown on the link you're referring to.

What would happen if you would just pull those two relays and just leave them out?

I see. I had to replace my D.S once (twice actually but it was with the wrong bulb, 3157 and it burnt out right away) so I guess I understand where you're coming from but other than that I haven't had any issues.

I don't think my DLRs burn hot enough to make a difference. I do like the look with them on and make identifying oncoming vettes faster so I can prepare to wave! Of course sometimes the oncoming vehicles turns out to be some other GM vehicle although I'll wave to the Cadillac XLR.

The only other lighting function that is disabled when pulling the fuse are the reverse lights that light up at night when you unlock the doors with the remote. In your mind you think Hey I need that, but if you think about it why would you want the reverse lights on? Serves no purpose. It lights the rear on the car a small bit but 99.9% of the time I'm walking up from the front or side. I back in most of the time as well. My fuse has been pulled for almost 2 years and never once have I thought I need my reverse lights to light when I walk up to the car.

Pull the fuse and if you don't like it after a few days, put the fuse back in.
