I had the same issue on my '99 for a long while. Techron wouldn't quite do it to solve the issue. Finally, I had the dealer update the firmware that I specified from their TIS website. Problem vanished. http://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web

Missed that tip on your first post Dave. Thanks
Now if it happens again, how to find a dealer here who has the knowledge to do the job?

Thankfully I haven't had the erratic gas gauge problem on my last two C5s. On my '99 I had it and it seemed like it would occur at just about any fuel level. Dealer replaced the sending units under warranty and never had the problem again.
while it may not be the problem in this case, remember that the C5 has 2 fuel tanks and that they are connected and equalized with a pump. if all of a sudden your "range" seems to be about half of what it is it could also be a fault of that system. it fails to equalize the tanks and could be the cause of the gauge dropping off the charts all of a sudden.
hopefully it is something simple like a stuck sender, but unfortunately, there are other causes also.

Thanks but I'm happy with how it works. The pump's in the right tank and low fuel registers when its low on the left. This is a sender snag

would that update reflash the PCM and screw up my custom tune??
