Thanks for posting this question MSG_C5. I have been wanting to do the same. I like the look of the dual cone better than the others.

I had one on my '03 coupe since new, until January this year. During all the years I ran the dual cones, three different performance modders told me the dual cones caused a turbulence in the intake from the air coming in both cones and fighting to get into the intake simultaneously. It never bothered me because there is no way it would be noticeable unless you were racing or running high speeds consistently. I only removed it when I had some performance work done, to install the Callaway Honker. The bottom line is, I ran the cones for 6 years with no issues. I do not believe there is a better looking intake for "appearance" purposes. You definitely gain HP with it. Oh by the way, during the six years I never had a seal on the front under the hood. Never had any water issues. You just make sure the hood is dry before you raise it. In pouring rain on the interstate, water does not come in under the hood to near athe cones. That is not an issue. Good luck with your decision.

i would go with a larger single filter like a blackwing, halltech, or large k&N cone filter. the twin cones setup entends the length of the intake, and creates more bends, thus creating more restriction than a larger single cone filter setup.

This looks pretty much like the one I saw at the show a couple weeks ago! Very nice. As to the rubber strip, I have the Performance Hood Seal from Mid America. The reason I point this out is because I tried another hood seal from WCC and they are different. The Mid-America hood seal has the sticky side on the bottom vs. the front side and IMO not only fits tighter, it also looks better because when you look straight down on the hood, you don't see the sticky tape like you would with the one from WCC. i bought a hood seal from corvette central and it didnt fit for crap. it was way too thick and pushed up the front edge of the hood. then i went to autozone and found the perfect stuff for 7 dollars. it was enough to do 2 cars even.

Is there really any point to doing this without improving the ambient air intake itself? Seems like as long there is no improvement in cold air supply, this is one of those visual improvements? I am even suspicious regarding the so called "improved" bridge designs like the one from K&N and few others. IMO, either assure that part or do not bother at all. Just my thinking though... I personally have a direct K&N replacement of the stock filter in the box but only because I picked it up for 10 bucks on fleabay...

The stock intake does have some restriction so it does free that up a bit. Honestly if you go to a 02+ Z06 intake it would be about the same net gains as the duel.

These duels used to sell for $199.99 to $349.99 back when there wasn't to many better choices considering there on ebay for $25.00 kinda tells you that there junk.
You will get better results just sticking a cheap Autozone,Kragen or Pepboys filter on the end of the MAF. Ask me how I know?

As a point of interest, I have a dealer 3 ring binder for the 2004 models and it shows a dual cone as a dealer installed option!! It also shows a Corsa Cat-back as a DIO!!

I installed a dual cone air filter setup along with a CF airbridge and a Ti cat back. The engine seems to breath much better and the look is much nicer than stock (IMO). I have no idea as to the HP increase. I plan to have a performance tune done. Does anyone know of a good Vette performance tuner in the Boston area. Preferably in the South Shore area.
Thanks,

I ain't gonna ask, seems I've been there myself and paper should be a superior filtering medium too

Cold intake air is always good, more air is very debatable, unless you change the A/F curve to make use of the extra air (then the fuel economy should take a dive if everything works out). Long time ago, I seem to recall really opening things on both intake and exhaust parts of the Fbody, reprogramming, fuel supply, running cool thermostat and concluding that both fuel economy and drivability took a dive (very easy to stall).

HI
I am finding these cone intakes for $400 bucks. Is the one you found on the same thing others are selling for $400?
I also see the cones are red or blue. What is the difference in the color or is it just for looks?

Thank you

I don't think you get much of a performance gain BUT they look nice! I had one on my old"97" and I liked it!

This is all good and well but if you live in a CARB state where you have to pass a smog test most of those CAI systems are not going to be approved.
In my opinion all parts manufacturer should be required to disclose in which states their parts are not legal.
To check if your part has been CARB certified go to the CARB website.

Brining an old thread back, but have a question. I have the duel set up on my corvette(How I purchased it) and noticed that the two cones rest on the plastic air dam under it. Is this ok? I noticed when I was cleaning the K&N filters on there, there where some where marks on the K&N filters where the mesh was breaking, but I think I saw that on the top where it wasn't touch so I guess it could be unrelated. K&N said they would send me two new filters as a good gesture anyways even tho they say they don't warranty "universal filters".
