We have a 2001 Vert with the power antenna, and hate it. We have bent two of them and are tired of replacing the antenna mast. Is there a shorty that would work with this car. We do not use the radio a ton so reception is not critical. Any ideas?
If you don't use it that much, why not just pull the fuse or disconnect the harness?
Or, replace it with a fixed mast antenna from a Z06. The mast just threads on and can be removed to clean, cover, etc. Shorty antennas can be made from the original length mast or found in the after market.
The antenna assembly/harness can be accessed through the outer tail light.
Maybe someone might be interested in a trade. There's a few cars being parted out in the classified forum. Or, a new one could probably be found through Gene Culley of GMPARTSHOUSE, a site supporting vendor.
If you dont use it much just pull the power lead and the mast will stay retracted. Tape up the connector so you dont risk blowing the fuse. Pull the outer tail light to get access to the lead.
In a good signal area it should still operate fine even stowed for the few times you'll use it.
If you ever want to use it the other option is to put an online switch on the auto extend wire from the HU (blue wire)
If you choose to upgrade to a DD Nav System, etc. you can program the antenna to only ascend when the radio is on and not when playing CDs, MP3 player, etc.

I have the same car and had the same problem. On the right rear side of the trunk remove the panel in the corner area. You may have to disconnect the courtesy light.
Find the pink wire and cut it as it controls the antenna operation. I spliced in a pair of wires that leads to the console (real easy) and installed a simple on/off switch. I keep the antenna down unless I want to listen to AM Rush Limbaugh etc.. /Ken

Just pull the plug and tape it off. Pull back the carpet on passenger rear under antenna and the plug is located right there. I have been that way for a couple of years and no reception issues, but it's pretty flat here.
