Default 101 octane

Will my stock 1997 C5 run better with 101 racing fuel that is avaliable at a local gas station, or is it a waste of money? I usually use 91 octane Chevron which is the highest octane rating where I live, any comments appreciated. Regards Marty

you can, but will cost quite a bit.

it will Definitively clean out the injectors.

So a tank once in a while wont hurt

It won't do much unless you change some timing tables in your ecu to take advantage of it. Other then a waste of money

For a normal car, it would be a waste of money.

There is a reason your fuel cap says unleaded fuel only. I've heard of 02 sensors going bad after doing this.

One of the top Corvette engineers at a Funfest seminar last year stated that if you are not on the track/strip you are wasting money with the higher octane gas. I have been using regular which is 89 octane in this area on my LS1,LS2 and LS3 engines. No pinging, great starting and 30 to 33 mpg.

Remember there is no more power in higher octane. It is only the resistance to firing.

If you run manual transmissions and do not lug the motor then you will not have pinging. The ecm will take care of everything.

The higher octane will not clean out any better than other levels as all gas has detergents required by feds. It is about one quart of detergent to 8,000 gallons of gas.

Default 101 Octane

As far as running the fuel it is ok to run it as long as it is unleaded. Leaded fuels will cause your Cats and O2senors to be ruined. Some people will tell you that running a higher-octane fuel is not beneficial because your car will not take advantage of the octane. I do not think this is a truly fair statement, I’ve been mixing in with my 91 pump gas 100 octane unleaded racing fuel called StreetBlaze 100 to get to about 93, 94, 95 octane depending on how much race fuel I have, and the response with the car is unbelievable, I have more power, torque, and a whole lot more throttle response.

you should run about 3 oz of marvel mistey oil in the tank. 101 octaine is a much dryer fuel and can damage your valves thats what the lead in gas did at one time. You weren't supose to run unleaded gas in a leaded gas car it burned the valves. 101 it will burn much hotter

In here is a key point,,since you have only 91 octane pumping in a few gallons before filling up with 91 would bring you in the neighborhood of the more accepted 93 That seems to do really well in these cars!!

93 octane would be best, but I know in some areas of the country it's not available, so 91 will do.

Regardless of what some people say ^^, Higher Octane DOES NOT clean your injectors better than, say, 93 or 91(or 87,89)Octane does.

I get so dizzy shaking my head when i hear people say STUPID remarks like that.....
