I have a $100 gift certificate I won at a cruise night from a Chevy dealer. I have been trying to think of a use for it and figured my 2000 Vette could use a new battery since it has the original. The dealer quoted me $195. installed. I have not bought a battery lately but that seems very expensive. What do you think? Thanks Mike
Pretty simple install on the battery...! Just buy the Delco and put it in yourself. You'll get a million replies as to what type of battery to buy. I think my Delco was around $100.00 at the local dealer...

Is the gift check dealer specific? If so, sounds like a bate & switch to get you to pay for the installation. I think new Delco's go for about $125. I would use the gift check, buy the battery at the parts dept. and install it yourself.
I have a 2000 as well that I've owned for a little over a year and a cell went bad in my battery. I went to Advance Auto Parts which was where the battery in the car was purchased thinking that I had a warranty on the battery but I needed to provide the original purchase location which I didnt know. Anyway, I had to choose between an Autocraft Titanium or upgrade to an Optima. I decided to go for the gel battery. $160 with free installation vs $90 for the Autocraft. 36 mos replacement. Sounds like the Delco may be the way to go for a few dollars more. I went with gel because I thought I had read a lot of people were switching to gel to avoid battery leaks.
Thanks for the replies. I am picking up the battery at the dealers parts dept and installing it myself. $125 + tax for a new AC/Delco 7 year Professional Series. The original battery is in the car & after 10 years I think it would be wise to replace it. 10yrs without a problem with the original battery so it served me well.
I can't get a look at the battery because the car is stored on the lift. Any tricky part installing a battery on a 2000? Thanks guys.
Edited to add: BTW: The dealer had no problem with the certificate so I got the battery for $25+ tax & the certificate.

After reading all the various "best battery" threads and reading about all the various problems some members have had with more premium batteries, etc., this is an example if it isn't broken, don't fix it.
I have my original Delco battery in my 2004 that is now 5 years old. I plan to replace it later this year and plan to install a new Delco. I've had no problems with it whatsoever.
No, just remove the hold down bolts and the terminal connectors. My OEM AC Delco was 7 years old when I replaced it and I'm sure it could've lasted longer. I now have the same one you have - excellent battery that will last along time.
If you have the original battery in your 2000 you are very lucky!! They usually only last 5-6 years. I just replaced one in my 2004, it was still OK but they have a way of just going bad some where besides your garage and I did not want to get stuck out some where. Just take the battery hold down mount loose in front (13mm) and remove, disconnect negative(black) cable first then positive (red) cable. Pick up on battery and remove, look at battery tray to make sure its clean and dry, install new battery and put red cable on first then black.

Any special codes or resets since everything is electronic? Will the radio stations need to be repgrommed or any other DIC information?

The original battery in my 2000 died 2 weeks ago. There was no warning, it went from just fine to absolutely nothing. I replaced it with the $90 Autocraft from Advance Auto Parts. I installed it myself had no lost presets or codes to deal with. The only thing to remember is that you will need an extension for the ratchet to get to the hold down bolt.
I would only use an AGM battery in my C5. 1997-2003 C5's use side terminal batteries, they sometimes leak. The computer is under the battery, if acid leaks on it and corrodes it and the connectors, you will have a lot of problems.
Optima Red Top 720 CCA were $67 at COSTCO. If you don't drive regularly, get a $20 battery tender at Walmart.

In the past I've had my battery disconnected for 2 or 3 months and all presets were retained. The only caveat is you need to make sure the radio does not have a lock code in place, or at least know what the code is. The Owners Manual will tell you how to set/clear lock codes.
Mike, you are lucky. I only thing I ever win at those things is a T-Shirt or a California Duster or a Hat. lol
Best of luck with your new battery.

Everyone that brought a Vette received a certificate in their goodie bag. It isn’t even a show but a gathering the dealer has every year. Last year the certificates were raffle prizes & this year everyone got one. Over a hundred Vettes. I look forward to this every year. There is no admission charge, great burgers, sausage & pepper sandwiches, soft drinks & water, deli pickles, chips, coolers of ice cream treats, etc. They even pay for a Spikes Junk Yard Dogs truck to do the dogs. Really too many more things to mention. I would recommend this dealer to anyone that need to buy a Chevy or service a GM vehicle. I am not saying that because they throw a great party but because I take my Vettes there for warranty & extended warranty service and they really take care of the cars. If you bring you car in for 3 repairs all three get done properly and there is no damage to the car or other things broken. They also have a very large Vette inventory. It is something the s/dealerships want to charge to change out a battery, when you can go to almost any "parts store" and they'll do it for free. My battery, (small problem with it) was swapped out free from Advanced Auto, no more than 2 months ago, new battery, no charge to "r/r" battery.
