Default Input needed. 2004 z06 with LS1 engine.

I just bought a 2004 z06 that is missing the engine. It is black with 120k miles, paint and body in very good condition, clean title. How much do you think this car would be worth if I were to put in an LS1 engine? Or should I spent the extra $$$ and repair it the right way.

If you do instal an LS1 engine make sure the valve springs are upgraded. The Zo6 PCM will let the engine rev to 6500 rpm while the LS1's redline at 6k. You will be floating the valves.

Be honest with any buyer, they will be pissed when they find out afterwards. A guy in the Zo6 section bought one and found out it had an LS1 and now he's sued the dealer. Ugly.

You would hurt the value of course, you can buy stock (used) LS6 parts for not much more than LS1... Buy the 243 casting heads/LS6 intake and the correct cam (or go bigger) and you should be okay.

If it were me I'd get the correct longblock though.

I know that the z06s did not come with LS1 engine. Trying to go the cheap route.

I live in Fort Worth TX.

I am shopping around and considering getting the 243 heads/ls6 intake and aftermarket cam. I would not sell the car claiming its something its not.

At first I did this , now I am to see if you don't already know the right answer later.

You should be able to get an LS6 Crate long block with Caddy oil pan for under $4K.

Do you have any of the parts from the original engine like oil pan and intake?

If it's for your own use, do whatever makes you happy. Nothing wrong with a LS1. If you end up modding down the road, it's basically the same diff. Just so it's not mis-represented for resale, and it sounds like you're not that guy.

In essence, an LS6 is only an LS1 with a very mild head and cam upgrade. Get yerself a 2001 and up LS1 and do the heads and cam before you drop it in, and viola!!! You're good. Buy some red fuel rail covers and it's an LS6.

BTW, I've owned 7 MR2's, all MK1's. The last one was an 89 SC with a Cusco pulley and handful of other upgrades. Fun cars....

What is a Z06 with a LS1 engine in worth? $5,000 if that

Any one who buys ( well except one) knows Z06s have LS6 engines.

Buy a LS6 crate or better yet a LS2 crate and related parts.

Might be able to sell for $15-16K when done

Personally I'd do it the right way - put the LS6 in it.

If you can't find the LS6 at the right price then I would consider parting it out.

Just pick up a Ls6 cam $100.00 , ls6 Heads $500.00 and Ls6 intake $300.00 and it will be very close to a LS6! It will make the same power.

Sometimes people need some to get a grip. People do motor swaps all the time with different motors in different cars.

Just curious what you paid for a 120k mile Z06 without a motor?

If I can find an LS6 locally I will go with that. If not it will be LS1 with 243 heads/LS6 intake and aftermarket cam.

AU N EGL why would a clean z06 with ls1 be worth only $5000? Shell is worth more than that.

Wicked C5 I rather not say at this time what I paid for it.

Black04Z06 I need to find out what the car will be worth once its running. I think what AU N EGL said 15-16k is the correct range. I rather not part it out but it depends on price of engine and labor.

IM28702 Were you over on MR2oc.com? I was a vendor there under same name as here. Ive had a few of the mk1s and they are still one of my favorite cars.

WHY? no one would buy it.

Parting it out might pay more

Sorry man your so wrong. A Clean frame Z06 shell is worth close to 7k. People build track cars all the time and could care less about the LS6. What they do want is the FRC body style and there is less of those available then any other C5 style
