Had the same thing happen to me one time. Was not a corvette but a rental can I had long term in Conn. I left my rental car at a hotel some of my co-workers were staying at. We left for a while and when we can back, my rental car was gone.
On the way to the police station, my rental car and driver passed us heading back to the hotel. The person that took it say he did not go anywhere.
Turned out all the keys for the Green rental cars fit all the Green cars. No wonder that manuf. if no longer in business.
I had the same thing happen to me with a Chevy Corsica. I had a white Corsica, walking out of the mall, saw "my" car and hit key fob, got into car, noticed it was NOT MY car ! Got out real quick !
When I was 16, I was fixing up my first car (1973 Fiat 124 Spider), and had a bad habit of leaving my key chain in the trunk. While scrambling around looking for a way in, my friend decided to try all the keys on his key chain. Well I'll be damned if his garage door key didn't open my trunk! The bad part is, he was late to his GF's Senior Prom the third time I locked my keys in the trunk, and had to call him!
I use my key to unlock my car because I don't keep my key fob on my keychain. Believe it or not my c5 is my bad weather car. The rest of the time I ride my crotch rocket. I try to keep my keychain as light as possible because on a motorcycle key jingling can be annoying.
