Anyone here(besides the Z06 guys) running without TPMS because of aftermarket wheels?

Some guys use bands and epoxy to secure their TPMSs in non-standard wheels.

There are new "holders" for TPMSs that mount in tire stem hole and will secure TPMSs.

Some people get lucky and don't get any codes, but most do. You can clear the error message, but I think it will come back when the system cycles through it's diagnostic routine...I am mounting my winter tires on my old wagon wheels without tpms this year, so I will be in the same boat as you. Cheers.

I am running without them. I am throwing the code for that. I just carry a tire repair kit and pump.

I'm running without sensors. Every time I start the car and it comes up I just hit reset. It throws a code after so many cycles but I just clear the code when that happens.

Thanks OldVetter. After you said that I decided to search and came across this.

http://www.iforged.com/store/index.p...61dff29241c592

I emailed them to see which application would be right for my wheels. I'd rather not deal with the code or reprogramming issue if I don't have to.

You are welcome Lancejoker. The fact that new cars came out with TPMSs has helped spur the aftermarket into accommodating TPMSs.

Remember they must be mounted close to a side of the wheel so you can use a magnet to reprogram them. You can try a magnet on them BEFORE mounting tires, to make sure they work.

Majority of aftermarket wheels are TPMS compatible

I would recommend using sensors just for the fact that we all use very expensive tires.

It would be like to get a warning that you have a tire going low and noticing this before the tire gets damaged beyond repair.

Without sensors, you will most likely notice a problem when it is too late.

Rod

PS, you can probably pick up a set of used sensors for around $100

Thanks Rod. The whels are an early set of CCW with 90* valvestems instead of the angled valvestems. I wasn't going to use straps. Like I said,I found those from Iforged that will hopefully work for me. I'll be buying new sensors. Used ones aren't worth saving $92 and not knowing how long they were used or how much they have left.

I agree. I bought a new set of TPM sensors for my winter wheels too. I just reprogram the receiver ever fall/spring when I switch out the wheels.

All the aftermarket wheels that I have had have been able to accept the factory TPS - so I have always used them.

Im basing this from Canada...

4 sensors here from the dealer cost 500$

If they are 200 for a new set, then definitely new is the way to go.

Hey Rod,Gene Culley sent me a message on another thread. $192.90 for the set. Much better way to go in my opinion.

have driven over 14K miles without, including two trips out west, DIC says service TPMS system occasionally, my original tires sit next to car in garage so car is happy first ~50 miles from home

does not affect handling

BTW, this shows the corvette tax http://www.americanmuscle.com/tpms-tool.html
