Replacing the speedo cluster?

Is the mileage stored on you cars computer or in the speedometer. I have a 97 with 65k miles and the instruments sometimes give problems. If I replace it will it read whats on the new speedo cluster or will it take the info from my cars comp? Thanks, James King

It will read whats on the new cluster but you can have it programmed with the correct mileage at a dealership.
