Default tranny change?

Putting money aside if I wanted to take out my six speed out of my 04Z and convert to a c6Z or a ZRI tranny would this be a notable increase in performance due to the gearing. Also can a company like RPM build a c5Z tranny with the same gears that is in a ZR1 or C6Z.

I recently had an RPM Stage V (with 9310 output shaft) installed on my car. Didn't mess with the individual ratios though. Did it more for the added strength. I would definitely take advice from a tuner about ratios before changing anything. Will be a costly mistake if you end up not liking it. Made that mistake myself when I had a 3.90 rear installed on supercharged Z.

Dave- Probably better to change the rear end gear ratio vs changing the ratios in your tranny. a 3.90 or 4.11 will certainly change the attitude of your car. If you need to rebuild your tranny due to power output, gearing up is hardly ever the right choice for a vehicle driven primarily on the street with an abundance of power. Remember: more gear means more tire burning goodness, and more revs, and less MPG. Having a 500+hp Z with 4.11 gears would mean you'd have to be very careful with the throttle to avoid the sideways dance, for example.

Basically: tell us more about your current setup and what you're trying to accomplish.

Stock Z wanting more zoomzoom: a rear gear swap is a good option

modified car putting out quite a bit of power or plan to: probably want to stay away from gears unless you're looking for alll out track domination and are willing to use some restraint on the street.

Hope that helps, with more info some very experienced folks here can give you some more input.

I'm not looking so much to change my rear gear ratio, just trying to match the six speed ratio maybe, the same as a ZRI or C6Z. My 07Z06 seem to have longer legs so each gear went a bit longer. If I went to a 3:90 or 4:11 it would suck for my 581rwhp set up on the street.

If you have 581rwhp, I would stay away from 3.90 (or above) gears. I have 3.90s and 787rwhp, and it's a nightmare to drive. Going back to 3.42s when I can afford it. 3.90s are great with a stock engine, or slightly above.
