Since the day I bought my Z the original said, " always keep your hand on the shifter in reverse because it pops out of gear when the car is cold". This thing always pops out of reverse no matter if the car is warm or cold. As soon as I dont apply pressure the the shifter it will pop out. I just wanted to see if this was common or not. Not too big of a deal as the car will stay in reverse with forward pressure applied.

Should not "pop out" in any gear. Kinda basic but make sure you have it FULLY engaged. Mine takes some "force" to fully engage into reverse.
My 71 popped out of first gear. Was told most common is second--but either way had transmission rebuilt--the syncros were bad and needed to be replaced. Agree with Bubbas
Mine is also tuff to put in reverse. Have to make sure it's all the way in, or it will pop out.
Yep, I always make sure the car is fully engaged in reverse. As soon as a load is applied without forward pressure it will pop out. I figured it was a syncro problem, just not ready to drop the trans just yet. All other gears are fine though.
