Default VARARAM Power Duct

I purchased a 2001 coupe with the vararam installed last year. I added the velocity stack also last year. This summer the plastic air bridge buckled and bled in air after the MAF. Purchased the C5 Power Duct from vararam and installed as instructed. This also involved relocation of the MAF sensor next to the throttle body. After installation my mileage dropped from 20/21 to 18/19 mpg. I sent a note on 9/9 to vararam and they have not responded. Also on 10/10 the check engine light went on and DTCs were P0171 and P0174. Put in the question to the electrical forum and received some excellent tips. I cleaned the MAF, throttle body, changed spark plugs and wiring. Reset the DTCs, disconnected the battery and did the relearn procedure for idle. On 10/21 MIL showed same codes. Collected freeze frame data and drove car to dealer. They thought at first the MAF sensor was bad but after testing found it read correctly for LTFTs when installed in the old location between the air cleaner and air bridge. Anyone else see these same results? This lesson cost over $300.

I have had the power duct on for 3 months now with no problems.Make sure you have no air leaks between the maf and the throttle body, seems to be a common error in fitment there.

My power duct has been on for over a year. No problems here. The duct installation and tune was done by Chuck C.O.W. I really like his work. Car runs awesome. Maybe you should give him a call. By the way the sensor is in the new location.

Also have the same setup, Vararam and Power Duct. Was getting same codes once in a while until I got the screen for the MAF from one of the forum vendors. It seems that the Vararam adds too much turbulence on the air flow and the screen fixes it. It's been almost one month and no more codes.

I had checked for leaks and did not find any. The dealer also checked and checked for exhaust leaks and did not find any. Thank you for the responses. The MAF does have the screen installed. Drove the car for over 150 miles today and no codes. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The LTFTs I do not believe are in the right range. In reading some other posts it appears they should be in the +/- 5%? Any ideas?

I have the same setup and was getting the "lean" codes from time-to-time.

Since my 02Z MAF did not have a screen,I got the Halltech Honeycomb screen( 3min install) and that solved the lean codes.$40 well spent for the screen and the throttle response seemed better.

Same issue here I want to put the honeycomb back in but that app says it's only for a Z06. I wonder if they make one for a LS1

Vararam called on Friday 11/13, and is providing excellent assistance in solving the P0171, P0174 and the P0420 codes. So hopefully in about 2 or 3 days that will be history!

My issues where with the MAF moved closer to the throttle body I would receive th P071 & P0174 codes and MIL light on. The Dealership said and tested for the MAF to read correctly it needed to be stored near the original position, then I would receive the P0420 MIL code. The dealership also checked for air leaks after the MAF and exhaust leaks. There were none. This has been an onging concern since first week of September right after I installed the power duct and relocated the MAF. I did a number of things to clear the problems as discussed in this and other posts. Var-a-ram reviewed the information from the freeze frame data that I uploaded from the scanner. The fuel trims were still high positive (rich mixture) even though the MAF was relocated to near original position by air box. After long and very detailed discussion Vararam feels that because of the rich mixture that the cats are coated with black post ignition emissions (back pipes of B&B exhaust are black). So go to back coutry and take it to WOT to burn off carbon. Drive for about 60 to 90 minutes at freeway speeds. Then use scanner to record LTFTs when engine cold, freeway and city driving. If city driving around 5-6% okay. Vararam said that they would look at results for other recommendations. but if I am still unsatisified they would refund the money for the power duct.

I'm curious as to why the air bridge buckled? This seems to be the place to start from.

So what are they going to do for you then that you say they are going to be history if yuo decide to keep it?

Sorry did not keep the "original" air bridge. It appeared to be a weak spot that caved to "V" to the inside and the hose straps pulled the the material t the v shape. I do not know if it was faulty material or it be came abnormally hot.
