Default Broken Valve stem

Well, I was putting a bit of air in the tires today to bring them up a couple psi back to norm and... Broke my right rear valve stem! I was removing the air compressor connection off the stem when about half of the stem broke right off letting the tire drain to 2 psi Am I am going to have to replace the whole TPMS unit or is there a way to replace just the valve stem in it?

Hi There;
You will have to go to a tire shop & have the tire removed from the wheel.Then you will have to replace & install a new t/pressure sensor & new o ring. The sensor & stem are installed as one unit.The tire pressure sensor a/c delco p/n is 25773946 for model year 2001-2004. The p/n for 97-2000 is pt 7098. The sensors for 01 -04 are about $36. each.The 97-2000 sensors are expensive. Make sure you torque the valve stem nut.You will need a strong magnet held at the v/stem to recalibrate the replaced sensor. Ps. fill out your profile. There could be someone close by to help you.

Alway be careful when checking air pressure or filling the tire. The valve stems are made of very soft aluminum and can break or crack as you just found out.

The whole tire pressure sensor will have to be replaced. It is all one unit.

I hope for your wallet's sake that you need the newer model TPM. I have the older ones...price is
Good luck!

In the mean time you could probably have them simply install a typical valve stem.

I don't know how old your sensors are. As a temporary (or permanent) measure, you could epoxy and strap the broken TPMS inside the tire and use a regular valve stem.

Mmm I think im gonna go ahead and get a new one, my car is a 2004 Commemorative coupe so the $36 part + however much it is to have a tire shop pull the tire and put the tpms in is worth it. Guess i'll track down how to calibrate it myself so I can just have the tire shop put it in and air the tire back up.

Ok, got an order in for the sensor and the nut from gmpartshouseusa but they dont have the o ring, im assuming what they have listed as the washer is the o ring but they dont have the option to purchase that, just to contact them about pricing on it. Happen to know what the part number for that is or somewhere else I can get it?

Hi There;
I called that item a o- ring. Actually they are called grommets. The gm p/n is 25715243 about $6.00 for 4 of them.When you go to the tire shop and before they start to work on your tire. Have the shop mark the tire to show were it lines up with the valve stem. A good t/shop will have the reset tool to calibrate the sensor & probably the grommets too.To prevent corrosion to the wheel. Balance Weights must be polyester coated. Call first to find out. If you want to see what the sensor looks like use the search function.Type:valve stem tires. Then look for this post TPS question???? byz2898 Click on this you,ll see a picture of the c6 wheel & sensor. Pretty much the same as a c5 BTW: Thanks for your service.

You only need a strong magnet and using your DIC you can "calibrate" a C5 TPMS. You actually need to do all four.

Glad my Z06 only has the cheap brass and rubber valve stems!
Plus, I have never broken one.

Or put the repaired wheel and tire back on the car, drive back over to the tire place, and let them calibrate it for you. They usually have a special tool that they just hold near the valve stem and press a button. A chain, like Discount Tire, should do that for you for free.

Local chevy dealer said they will pull tire, replace, balance, put it back together and calibrate it for $35 bucks so i'm gonna go that route, soon as my sensor gets here

Well, wouldn't ya know it, the same dang thing happened to me this past weekend .. same wheel, too (right rear).

No TPMS on the Z06 .. regardless, I'm pulling the wheel and taking it to a shop. Nice to know it won't cost me a new tire.

One for CF

I had the same problem. Used one of the 45 degree type air hoses and it snapped the valve as I pulled it off. I'm not very bright but I'm really strong:o

I blooded the local tire dealers with working on a Corvette after that
