I have a 2001 and the dash lights won't work when the headlights are on. The dash lights work fine when the headlights are off. Anybody know why this is happening? This problem just started a few days ago- everything was fine before that.
I just had this happen and i posted up the same question. The answer is it is the headlight switch..(combination switch).. It costs about $350.00ish for the part depending on where you get it. and about 2 hours labor if you take it to the shop.
Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs but is the rotary dimmer set properly?
lol
When I first bought my vette before I read the manual I was like playing with that and trying to figure out what it was for. Sure enough had no dash lights that night, after I read the manual that was it.

Are you saying that with the headlight switch in the parking light position the dash lights come on, but in the headlight position the dash lights go off?
Or are you saying that with the headlight switch all the way off you can see your Driver Information Center display, but with the headlight switch turned on it goes off? If this is the case, then like Dee Gee said, check your instrument dimmer (rotatry ****).
If you don't have instrument lights with your headlight in either the parking or full-on positions, then also take a look at your tail lights. If they aren't on then you do indeed have a failed multi-function (headlight) switch. It can be removed and repaired using the DIY thread if you are mechanically inclined. I have pulled mine a couple of times to "adjust" the connector inside the switch.
