Most times when I put in a CD it doesn't read and gives me the Err message. I cleaned it but it still happens. What am I doing wrong? Any special cleaning process aside from the standard CD cleaner I use in my other players?
I hope my player isn't going bad as I tried 5 different CDs yesterday (all production ones not home mades) and none worked. After the 6th one going in and out getting Err each time after about 10 tries it works.
When its reads Err on the player, the DIC then lights up "Ha Ha...you suck!". Well not really but after feeding a CD into it 10 times it feels like it could.
Urgh...a new CD player cannot be cheap!!! Might be time to do the iPod wire mod?
Are you referring to the single CD in dash radio/player or the 12 stack CD remote changer?
Are you certain you're inserting the CD(s) correctly? Label down is correct in the remote changer trays, opposite of what you'd think it should be. After you insert the CDs, you have to allow them time to cycle (whirring noise) before you can play the individual CDs.
If you use search or search this forum (in the red banner), in C5 Tech, use the keywords "cd changer error" or similar.
It occurs on the single cd player inside the car. I have had it happen a couple times. Try fully ejecting the cd and inserting again. Might take a few tries, but usually works for me. It seems, too, that after I turn the car off and restart it, the problem goes away.
What a great article and with the pictures, it looks too easy. I haven't been able to use my CD player for almost a year. Certainly didn't want to pay for a new one. I'll be giving this a try soon. Thanks!!!
So far so good. Yesterday I followed your two picture set but when I tried to pull the radio, I couldn't get it unhooked from all the wires that power it up. How do you get these (three) sets off the radio in order to get it out? After struggling (I couldn't get the center console completely off as the gearshift cover held it in place) holding the console out of the way and pulling on the radio....!!! Almost.....More hlep for this dummy?

The gear shift "boot" should come apart from the bottom of the center console fairly easy. Its just little snaps that hold it in. You have to push down and inward to release the snaps around the base of the boot holding it in place to the console. You can slide shifter boot out the center console hole, and remove the center console.
The plugs in the back of the stereo itself are just standard locking plugs. I don't remember having a hard time to get them off. They are locking plugs, and just require you to squeeze in a certain area to release the lock as you pull it away from the stereo.

Hope this helps

I thought they were "squeeze" plugs but maybe with the console out of the way I can get in there better. Is the black cable the antenna? And does it just pull out? Also, you didn't tell me about the waterfall! With a vert you have to take off the waterfall to get the console out! Thanks...

Oh yea... I don't have a waterfall... . I never thought about that.
I think the black cable is the antenna. Its been a while since I had mine out though, but I think thats correct. I was able to pull the radio all the way out and get a close look at the plugs in the back as i disconnected each of them. It should be obvious to you how each comes off then. I don't remember them being any sort of weird connector requiring any special tools.
