Ok I didn't want to take over the other threads so I thought I'd start another. I noticed a "bumpy" idle and checked mine and it wobbles a bit.. The idle isn't like a miss but just a small vibration that can be felt only when the clutch is in. under any load it is super smooth. I was wondering if this is what the problem may be and if so I'll replace it. I also was wondering what the deal is with the Underdrive pullies? Wouldn't that lessen the speed of the alternator and other pullies thus less amounts of voltage? Also good brands is always a help! Thanks!
Well if you look at your pulley while the car is idling and it is wobbling then it needs to be changed and you shouldn't drive the car much until then.
ASP is the go to pulley for underdrive or get a stock one that'll last 100k again. Yes UD will be worse if you have a stereo system but I didnt notice anything from stock.
Careful who you choose to do the job. Rollins automotive in gainesville Fl did mine and broke my power steering which ended up costing me 800 out of my pocket at the gm dealership and my christmas vacation. It's not a terribly hard job, I did it on my own on my next C5 but you have to be careful to have ps fluid back in and be gentle with the rack and line it up...basically go to a corvette shop to have it done or do it yourself.
def. need a very powerful impact wrench to get the bolt off the main pulley.
You need to order a brand new bolt from GM, they arent supposed to be reusable. And put locktite on it when you put it back in. Get the rack out of the way and you are set
Only thing that'll suck is doing it on the ground, if you had a lift it would be cake
On a stock setup, and a stock alternator,,should not be a serious concern. From what I've read(and it's been a while ago) that the field "excites" once the RPM passes 1,500 RPM after start up. Unless you sit around with it idling a lot,,shouldn't be a problem!! From posts here,,working room is a real B!tch,,and if the rack gets moved can cause some serious problems,,so be careful and do your homework BEFORE you tackle the job. Stien automotive around 1300 W.Main in Belleville has a couple of vet savvy guys if you change your mind.
