The lower LSA causes the crazy sounding idle..dont believe it affects power much, if any. Surely someone will clarify this...

Peak numbers will not change between the two so expect power to be roughly the same. A 114 LSA will idle slightly smoother than a 112 LSA. The 112 LSA cams tend to produce their torque a little quicker in the RPM range so mid range response is increased.

I've read and heard from people with both and the consensus I got was that the 114 was a better choice for the street. That said, it all in the tune but if it were me I would do the 114, I'd never pick a cam based upon the sound. I was going to go with an 114 X3 last summer but decided to go SC route instead. After speaking with a lot of guys and doing a lot of research, most people said that if they had it to do over again they would have gone SC. I didnt want any of the street manners to change as described by others. Not that LG's G5 cams are/ have bad street manners but cams in general. Depends upon how you are going to use the car though. If I change my mind a gain back to a cam install, I will be using a G5x3 on 114LSA without a doubt.

Your car should not need anything but the OBD2 computer check during the State Inspection, I'm down the street from you and they have seen my headers and never said anything, never looked under the car for cats either (they're there) but I don't know if they'd let the rough idle of a G5x3 pass. 96 and up do not require the dyno test where they will actually test the exhaust emissions so technically, you should be OK as long as there's no codes in your computer when they test. Will it pass the IM240 here? I doubt it but that's not a concern for Collin, Denton, Tarrant or Dallas counties...yet.
My concern is that with all the ozone action days we have been having and the continued poor air quality tests from the epa, that eventually we will be on the dyno just so they can get the polluters that are slipping thru. Thats another reason I decided to go SC, no change of emissions unless you're at WOT or in boost and you shouldn't be in boost on the inspection dyno.

I have known people with a cam in Fbodys and the inspector flat out told them not to even bother and to go somewhere else. I know of 1 guy whose car was so nasty sounding that he would actually change cams for the inspection then change back after-wards. It must be easier in an f-body although mine was tighter than the C5, I wouldn't go thru that. There's plenty of vettes and f-bodys around here that have cams, I dont know where they are getting inspected though, I never see them at a inspection station.
I think the only thing that will really make an inspector think twice about passing you will be how rough the idle is, that's another reason I was looking at the 114 cam. As far as I know though, if your car dosent have codes when they connect to it then I think you should technically be fine, that's really all there supposed to look for on OBD2 cars.

this is crazy guys. I had a 112 in my ws6 and it drove great. People on this board are so scared of things. There is nothing like a lsx motor with a nice choopy cam. My cammed ws6 with no cats passed inspection everytime! A 114 will be choppy and people will know its cammed also.

My personal opinion is go with the smaller G5X1 on a 112 and give up 10 hp and have a lot more fun cam to drive around town. It has a lot more low and mid range than the X3 and for most of us on the street we live in the idle to 5000 RPM range....not the 3000-6800.

No one is afraid of anything, just dont want the hassle of what may happen. Just because you had no issues dosent mean everyone else will not and a WS6 with no cats will not pass inspection if the inspector does his job.

Zo3o6 and G5X2 wouldn't be a bad choice either.
