Default 01 with 405hp?

I tried searching but found nothing. I have heard from two different 01 Z06 owners that their cars had the 405hp LS6 from the factory because they were late in the production year. Is there any truth to this or are they trying to sell me something they don't have? If true, how can one tell? VIN range? I was told the oil lines one the motor are stainless on the 405hp.

Thanks,
Kyle

Everything mentioned from the oil lines to the vin range is untrue.

NO '01 Zo6 was 405hp. Late production cars got the newer piston design, but the cam, valvesprings, cats, airbox, descreened maf all happened strictly in the '02+ years.

Think about it, to get the engine EPA/CARB certified for emmissions is a big process. It was all upgraded/changed for the '02 year model, not recertify an engine for a final run of cars in twilight months of a closing year model.

If this is any help, the 01s were conservatively rated. They actually produced hp closer to the 400 level.

01 cars did not get the 405 HP motor, someone is blowing smoke your way. The average stock 2002+ Z06 will dyno 20 more RWHP than the average stock 2001 Z06.

Unfortunately this is not true. I owe one if not the last 2001 Z06 production dated June 18th 2001 ( VIN#....134934. The last day of '01 production was june 21st 2001 (Vin #135448). What your 'buddies ' have are two 405hp Z06 fender badges. Several ways to tell the '01 from the '02-'04 LS6 , pup converters on the '01, MAF screen, small opening on the top cover of the fresh air filter box, ect.

The newer designed pistons ( cold start piston slap) wwere introduced to the '01 production line in Mid-April of 2001 for the LS6 ( and weeks later for the LS1).

I agree, badge engineering by the seller.
I saw a C5 Coupe today with C6Z06 505HP badges on it. Badges didn't make it a C6Z06 anymore than the Z06 405hp badge does that car. Seller is probably hoping for a less informed or knowledgeable person; he'll probably find them too.

Um, nope. If it is any consolation, the 385HP LS6 is still pretty stout...

01 thru 04 ZO6 models were woefully underrated but even so the quarter mile times for the 01-04 models are 12.4-12.6 btwn 114 to 116 mph. Bone stock both models on the dragstrip usually finished about neck and neck at the finish. Also both models had high 11.9 potential. Ranger , bless his soul ran his 01 ZO6 with only an aftermarket filter 12.0.

The '02-'04 cars run at least 2/10ths quicker than the '01 cars. I would not consider these cars to be woefully underrated.

Dont let these 02-04 owners pull your twinkie--Several 01s came from the factory with 420 ponies--Which one you have, who knows-

I dont let certain individuals faze me because I usually know what Im talking about. When I mention about C5Zs being underrated its usually by GM published numbers (possibly for insurance reasons). I have also seen several dynos on 01 models in the 360-370 range. Stock. Some people are just ****** naturally. They dont need any training.

Hi LS6Vette02 -

I have only been into these cars since 2001 as an owner, so what would I know about them -

But I have never ever heard of a 2001 car that came with the upgraded 405 hp engine.

Dyno numbers are just a reference point and are not to be take as gospel due to the many variables that come into play during a dyno run.

Where the rubber meets the road is where you will see the difference, and I would submit the bone stock Z06 fast list from this very forum

C5 Z06 Bone-Stock Times

1--11.783 @ 116.90--1.818--J-Rod---------'02
2--11.818 @ 117.26--1.783--Ranger--------'02 11/03 Slip
3--11.844 @ 117.91--1.761--Gary2004Z06--'04 11/07 Post 229, Slip
4--11.93x @ 119.xx--1.xxx --Esoteric-------'0x
5--11.97x @ 118.80--1.90x--GMHTP--------'04 03/04
6--11.99x @ 117.61--1.xxx --02Z06Racer---'02
7--12.048 @ 115.92--1.866--pwrshfd-------'02 12/03
8--12.08x @ 115.95--1.83x--Pray ----------'02 01/06 Slip
9--12.09X @ xxx.xx --1.79x--UVETTA -------'03
10-12.131 @ 120.65--1.970--zapp109-------'04 03/09 Slip, Post 384

12.205 @ 117.96--1.91x--Nat04Z06----'04
12.21x @ 112.XX--1.87x--Blue Angel ---'02 07/04
12.227 @ 115.09--2.011--ZR WON -----'01 04/04 Post 6
12.22x @ xxx.xx --1.77x--holedgr-------'02
12.25x @ 117.xx--1.xxx --J Z06 --------'04 05/06
12.27x @ 115.16--1.957--SpeedFreak81-'03 07/07
12.2xx @ 1xx.xx --2.xxx --My1stZ ------'03

It seems evident to me that the 02 and later cars seem to be winning the 1/4 mile wars, and thus one may extrapolate that these later cars are incrementally more powerful as delivered.

I see only fatuous twaddle by way of evidence from the folks who dispute this.

The 01, as stated, was no slouch and nobody need hang their heads about ownership of one.

best regards -

LOL!

Gotta love when someone joins the forums (Oct 2009), puts up a bunch of completely inaccurate posts, and then gets pissed and attacks a senior member when he corrects the posts. That is classic!!

A bone stock 01 370HP SAE corrected dyno run? Yeah, sure.

See. No training needed. Natural. And delusional since I never made any reference to anyone in particular. As far as mistakes, I may have made a few. But if I thought I was Mr. Big**** like you, I wouldnt make any. Please Mr. BS tell us how. We would all like to know.
