Default Z06 specific windshield availability

Hey all!

I'm curious about something: It's understood that the C5 Z06 has a thinner windshield than a regular model to save weight. My question is in regards to the availability of these windshields from GM. I did a search and nothing came up, so I do apologize if this has been covered in a previous thread.

What got me thinking of this is the fact that C4 ZR-1s had a special windshield in them as well. There were some delamination issues, and it's become impossible to find an OEM replacement. Basically, you get a crack, there is NO possibility of purchasing a new GM replacement windshield.

So.... Does anyone have the GM part number for the special 'thinner' C5 Z06 windshield? Does anyone know if they are still available?
Thanks in advance!

The Z06 windshield also doesn't have a radio antenna inside it, like with the C5 Coupe.

Also of note, if you have an '01 Z06 there's no HUD so the windshield is even different from the '02-'04 unit. As far as weight there's probably no appreciable difference, but if you are a stickler for detail......

Got slammed by sand storm coming back from vegas couple months back. Had Caliber Auto Collision repaint the car and replace the glass. They invoiced my insurance company $795 for the front glass. Glad it was them and not me...

You can't get the windshield with the 4.8mm marked on it anymore. I just went through this the last two years. Two replacement windshields for the Z bought through the dealer and paid for by State Farm. The dealer's computer showed the part number and they ordered that part number. Two times I got a windshield without the 4.8 and no radio antenna. At least the second windshield wasn't so distorted you could feel the distortion with your hand.

Make sure they replace the weatherstrip and side moldings going over the doors. Make sure the guy doing the repair keeps the old side window blow out clips as they are no longer available from GM.

Thanks for the replies.

It would seem the 'exact' replacement windshield is already unavailable.... That's unfortunate.

I just got a new windsheild put in yesterday. It has 4.8 on it and all the orignal ZO6 markings down in the corner. It took saflite 3 weeks to get it in but it is in. The damn moldings are broken now but atleast i can see.

Great pic.

Good to know that a glass may still be available from the right source. Hope I never have to have one.

Almost 7 lbs. Everyting adds up, thats why this car was built the way it was. IMHO, keep it as light as possible.

Having safelite come out today for my front windshield. They say they have the factory OEM Z06 HUD glass in stock. They didnt say anything about the side moldings that I have a feeling they are going to break in the process.

I was refering to the weight difference of a 2001 Z06 non HUD windshield vs a 2002-2004 Z06 HUD windshield. After re-reading my post I can see how it might have been misconstrued.

Safe light came out today with the wrong glass. It was an AP and HUD but not the 4.8MM Z06 glass. I talked to the manager and explained everything and he said he would want to order every part from GM if they did the job. I'm taking the car to a buddy of mines bodyshop and they are going to do it. They are using new GM glass, top and side moldings and new bottom seal.
