Nitto NT505

Tire and Tread Wear Rating
Tread Wear rating will tell you of course how long, relatively, a tire will last. The higher the number, the longer the tire will last. Conversely, what you give up in a long wearing tire is traction. The lower the tread wear rating the less miles you'll get out of the tire but the stickier it will be.
High tread wear rating = less traction, less wear, more miles
Low tread wear number = more traction, more wear, less miles
When mentioning the 555 tires you need to be specific.
There are 3 different Nitto 555 tires
NT555 is a full tread design street tire with a tread wear rating of 300. This is a nice tire for driving in all summer type weather conditions with not such great traction. For instance, the OEM Goodyear runflats on my Z06 have a tread wear rating of 220.
NT555RII These are a competition tire designed for guys like me who like to do a few track days per year. Not good for street use, especially wet weather. These are designed for dry conditions only. Trear wear rating of 100. These are sticky and wear quickly.
NT555R A 100 tread wear Drg radial made exclusivley for Drag Racing.
Other Nitto's in the performance oriented group
NT01 Designed like the NT555RII but can be shaved down to 3/32. These are a 100 tread wear and designed for dry conditions only.
NT05 A very high performance street tire which also work well at the track. These are good to drive on the street and the track. Tread wear rating of 200
Invo A street tire with a radical tread design and moderate tread wear rating of 260. Found on many Honda's and the like. They are fine for Corvettes but to me they look like an import car type tire....

Thanks all
