Does anyone out there have any experience running a laser jamming device on a C5 Vette? I am very interested in installing one on my 99 FRC. I think the emitters will work well installed in the large vent holes in the front facia of the car. I am also thinking about trying to hide them around some LED running lights. All comments welcome! What do you guys think?
On Halloween day (maybe 1pm), I was cruising down a slightly curvy street. Speed limit was 35 I believe (maybe 40, they've been changing the speed limits around here a lot) and I came around a pretty tight curved part of the street when I spotted a motor cop standing off to the side of his bike getting me with the laser. My heart jumped into my throat for a sec until I realized I was only going 45 or so. I was still slowing down as I was getting closer and passed him within about 3 seconds of me spotting him. While I passed him he was still aiming that damn gun at me. LOL
What's funny to me is that I have poor eye sight, he was pretty much sitting in the shade of a tree camouflaged pretty well, he had that gun on my a good 5 seconds or more, and STILL didn't get my speed.
I don't have a laser jammer. I'm thinking about buying one, but the C5 has a natural resistance to laser as it is because of its profile. I may get one just in case. I don't really speed much, but you'll never know around here... That cop didn't like that he wasn't getting a reading on my car. I could tell. And I'm sure he didn't like that a "teenage-looking" guy was drive a C5. HAHA...

Yes. The only decent ones I'm aware of are the Escort Laser Shifter and the Blinder. I have the Escort unit and the transponders are mounted as you say, in the front "scoop" openings (not the brake scoop openings). Some custom work on the mounting brackets is required to keep the transponders level. It works well, but if I were to buy one today, I would go with the Blinder M47. It's even better.
I have no complaints about mine. It's never let me down. Little product called the Speed Limit.
I have no issue with the speed limit but I do have an issue when LEO's that don't tell the truth. Last year, got a lidar ticket which the officer refused to show me the device or even tell me what kind of device it was. He claimed I was doing 83 in a 70. Not the case at all. I know I was a little above the limit, like 75-78, but I was not doing 83. In court, it was then discovered that he was shooting at license plates from 2000 feet away per his testimony. LOL, a human cannot see a license plate 2000 feet away, simply not physically possible. But, that didn't matter to the judge. It was in court that we found out it was lidar. So, now there is a Blinder installed in my car. Yeah, they are no longer legal here but if the LEO has the right to lie, then I have the right to protect myself.
Back to the speed limit, had I been doing the posted speed limit, I have very little doubt that I would have been issued a ticket regardless. I'm not bashing LEO's so please don't take this wrong.
Installing the device was no easy task on a C-6 in my case. A serious amount of bruises, blood and so on to get it installed. Had it been a C-5, the install would have been significantly easier.

All the info I have indicates LEOs are trained to begin shooting at 1000' (~). At 1000', the beam spread on LIDAR is approx. 3' wide. At 2000', who knows? 6' wide? 10' wide? 2000' is almost 1/2 mile! No wonder you were pizzed.
Btw, another little trick is shoot you in the back after you've passed a hidden position, so don't neglect the rear transponder(s). No system is perfect, but at least these devices give you a fighting chance.

Yep, sure did. The judge didn't care about any facts. In my case, went for the deferrment program or something like that. No tickets for a year and it won't show on my driving record. Still had to pay the fine. Huge ripoff too me that the justice system is corrupt like this. So, I'll play their game except next time they won't get a lock on me...at least not till I want them too.
