unfortunatly its not totally an urban legend I know a couple of people that had QTP's and they lasted about 6 months. These seem to be the only one's I've heard of with problems though.
Anyone have some pictures of an install on an A4? I looked at mine and it seems a little tight for cutouts where most have them installed near the transmission.
Hey guys just asking a question here....can't say where I heard it...you know...you just hear things sometimes and that's what this place is for to "find out"
burning up the motors is entirely dependent on a couple of factors. 1.) how they are installed and 2.) how well you learn to use them.
Problem is when closing or opening all the way, you have to know when to let off the control switch. Hold it in to long, and stripped gears or the set screws on the collar between the motor and butterfly valve go. (don't hear much about actually burning up the motors). Also, they must absoluteluy be kept in synch. This involves periodically checking them to make sure they both open and close at the same time.
I had trouble with McCords and QTP. I was able to determine the problem and fixed it myself. No other problems once you have the full understanding of what to and what not to do.
The A4 is definatley more of a challenge than the M6 to iall, but can be done.
A nice pair of turndowns if a good thing as well. Keep the heat off that rear spring!!!
I think cuts outs will be my next mod, pick my car up tomorrow from Englandgreen and he has someone who does the install here in Houston. He made a comment on how good the car sounded with open headers, damn it!

Told ya the cam & clutch wouldn't be it for awhile.
BTW: Open headers on your car would just frustrate the neighbors next couple street down.
Mine have been fine since installation several years ago but I tend to leave tem open most of the time when I'm not in an area that it's not considerate to make that kind of noise in. I designed what I wanted the exhaust shop to do and gave the tech the illustration so there was no question what I was looking for. There are several different arrangements for the M6 and a couple for the A4. Like Diyguy, I started out with McCords and switched to QTP's for better quality/reliability.
Probably the most fun mod of all - the car is mild or wild at the flip of a switch, depending on your mood.
Here's a driveby of mine after I first installed them. Turn up the volume to get a more realistic idea of the sound.
I have taken them off once since to apply a better RTV silicone seal.
On the Vette.
The custom switch box I designed to house the switch. It replaced the ashtray.
Tony Mamo did an awesome job customizing his install.
And there are several others here who have done excellent installs as well. The DMH low profiles as well as the new low-profile QTP's are now available to make the fit even easier.
