Default New owner with ?

Just recently purchased my first vette - '97 c5, Carmine red, auto, both targa tops, blk leather, 40k mi for 16.5k. My ? I can hear a metal on metal clanking from the rear susp. when i hit bumps, I think its the 12 yr old bushings. Is it, and if so which ones, and is it a diy job? Thanks for any help. Finally no longer just a member but also an owner!!!!!

Can't help you with the diagnosis, but congrats on getting into a C5. Post up a pic when you can.

It could be sway bar bushings and that's a DIY fix

Search for sway bars and you should find a guide. I'll post a link if I can find one.

My suggestion will be to jack it up put it on some JACKSTANDS and do a thurough inspection - grabbing parts, shaking them doing some impact work with a "HEAVY" RUBBER Mallet!

Take a close look at the ENDLINKS in the back since they are Plastic and not metal - it is very possible they can be shot!

Thanks,Matt

Don't rule out the exhaust as the source of your noise in the rear. 40,000 miles is a little early for suspension problems even though it's a 12 year old car. Congrats on your Vette

Congrats on your new car and I agree, you should look at your sway bar end links!

I wager its the swaybar bushings or possibly the end links. either way seems like a good time to upgrade to some new bars, end links and bushings. lots of options. I upgraded to c6 z51 bars.
good luck with the fix and congrats on the vette
