Default Swapping Plugs/Wires--Helpful Hints?

Changing my plugs and wires on '04 C5 Z06; parts from GM Parts House. I'm looking for hints on pulling wires from plugs, always difficult, anti-seize or drop of oil on threads, I know work on cool engine for all the reasons------other hints. Not quite as concerned on wires because of placements but how to break seal and pull hints solicited.

Thank you,

You guys always give me great advise.

By the way, installed Homelink in this car today, very easy do, nice unit from Partsladi.

Just did mine two weeks ago. The biggest trick is to twist the boots until you feel them break loose from the plugs, that will make it easier to remove them.

Lots of beer.

Wear gloves (or a pair of socks on your hands) when pulling the boots.

A few of mine required excessive force and twisting.... it can hurt if you strike/cut your hand when the boot FINALLY releases.

That's a good link. I'm going to buy the plug pliers. I just did mine and used a regular set of pliers and a big screwdriver. I just barely put the lpiers on the plug wire and used the big screwdriver as a pry and they popped right off.

Hi Paul -

For most of them I just grabbed the heat shield and twisted while pulling, but for the #7 and #3 I used the pliers -

You could get by without them but they were handy in a couple of places....

best regards -

Yeah, what they all said... But, the most important tool -- Patience. Several of the them are easy to get to, pull right out, and the plugs are easy to back out. A couple of them are absolute PITA to get a hand or pliers on, and it can get very frustrating. I found that after doing the easy ones first, it helped to walk away from the difficult ones when I got frustrated, and come back to them later. Then they seemed to come right out. Go figure. LOL Maybe it was the beers I drank during my break.....

I ended up ripping some of my wires off the boot. Then I use needle nose pliers to recover the rest. Having the right size extension and swivel will make things easier.

I pull the wires off pull the plugs and always use a dab of anti seize on each plug and spray a little silicone spray on the boot and they slide on with ease.
