I'm looking at one of the interior upgrades, inserts for the steering wheel of my 2003 50th.AE. My interior is in shale color, and I was wondering how well the insert kit works? It says it's UV resistant, and is from CorvetteGuys, but what I'm wondering about is that on my steering wheel, the Corvette logo isn't all that deep, and I'm wondering if the inserts will sit too high, and also, how to you prep the streening wheel prior to installing the inserts. Let me know what you think of them and what color would go good with the shale color interion? Thanks !

I just bought a Cyberdine decal from HRWMotorsports (forum member blacksedan87) for mine - looks great and so far no problems with the decal sticking to the airbag.
Yours look great, and you have a 50th AE, so is that stock indented chevy crest deep enough for the insert to hold on without being hit by your hand all the time? My steering wheel crest is like only 1/32 deep and I'm afraid of rubbing or knocking the emblem all the time. How long have you had it on? In the summer the interior of my car gets up to 125 degrees.. . .?

I have the 50th AE inserts on my steering wheel and sill plates. They are from Cyberdyne and are the raised gel type. They have been on for at least 2-3 years and look great. They are not raised too high but enough to look professional. I used denatured alcohol to prep the surfaces. It is the little finishing touches such as these that help the car stand out!
These really look nice, where are they from? and Has anyone ever used the ones from CorvetteGuys ? And if not, how do I contact Cyberdyne? I was thinking of getting one from CorvetteGuys, they look nice but I'm wondering about how they attach to the steering wheel and if they are going to be too high on the wheel. What are the 'gel filled' ones like? Opinions ? Thank you .

Reason: addition
Incidentally, the gel type will sit about flush with the surface of your wheel once installed. As others have said, it's the preparation of the surface that will insure a long life for them. They install with automotive grade adhesive ... they aren't going anywhere once they're on, assuming the surface is prepared properly.
And by looking at Allegro's inserts, I can 99% guarantee that's a gel-filled style. There aren't many companies that have the GM licensing to make this product, so there are only so many places it can come from, and only so many styles that are available.
The silver is currently NOT in stock but all the other colors are. The silver, it should be noted, does NOT have the blue triangle in the middle - it's just the silver/chrome style cross-flag C5 logo inset.

I just ordered the shoulder pads in silver. I will let anyone that is interested know how they look with tan interior and a red vette. One day, maybe they will make the stitching in red

My question is how do they function in an accident?
You can view pictures of my C5 after my accident where it was totaled out. My face plowed into the air bag, and the deployment injured my hand pretty badly... I'd wonder where that insert would have gone during that process? Through my eye? Who knows.
I was all about getting one, now I'm glad I didn't.

Food for thought.
Since the air bag cover splits down the center on deployment, would it be possible to cut the emblem in two down the center before installing it? With the right adhesive, I wouldn't think the halves would detach from the cover when the bag goes off. I have no idea if this would work, but thought I'd throw it out there. I love the way these things look, but the concern about air bag deployment is a valid one.
