Just wondering if there is a good solution out there to replace the factory changer with an iPod? Googling seems to just come up with lots of C6 solutions, but nothing specific to the C5.
Yes, get the ipod2car PXDP with the PXHGM2 harness. It plugs in where the changer did and you're good to go. I just ordered both for $103 shipped but you can find them used sometimes or on that auction site if you look.
Can this be used if you do not have a CD changer? Can it be plugged into the dashboard factory receiver head unit?
I think I remember reading something on the audio forum pages, that talks about a harness (near the passager side trans hump) that comes towards the back of the car from the radio. This would connect to the longer stock cable to the cd changer. If the cd changer option was not installed then everything stops there. With that, there is a harness that attaches/adapts to this connector to go to a aux2car or maybe even the ipod2car converter. Check out peripherals.com or discountautostereo.com.
Yes you can use the Ipod2Car if you don't have the rear changer. It plugs into the back of the radio where the changer would be plugged into. That's how mine is hocked up. bill

Here is a tutorial I found that I plan on using this winter when I add it to my car. Great photos and a good, detailed explanation. It is for a C5 that does not have a changer though. You didn't specify so I don't know if this helps or not. If you have a changer it should be super easy, but if you don't...

If you want to ADD and not replace the CD player these is a post over in the Audio section it may even be in a sticky. Anyway you can rig up a relay that will switch between the CD audio (only) and the iPOD/MP3 player's audio (only). You will not have any control over the iPOD as far as changing songs etc. through the radio buttons and no charging current for the iPOD/MP3. I have a copy of the schematic I got off the posts over on the audio section. I don't quite know how to post a link here, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you. I can help you pick out a relay and switch to make this work. I have not tried this so I'm not so sure if the wiring color code is correct. It is the low dollar fix to have selectable audio from both.

The trouble with the 45.00 ones on ebay is that they are older stock and will not charge the 4th or 5th gen nano's. ipod2car changed the pxdp about 6 months ago and added the 5 volt charge wire for the newer ipods and iphones.
