Ok, so long story short the casing on my 2000 fob cracked. Is it possible to find just the back half that the battery connects to, or would you have to buy the whole thing? Anyone know by chance?
Easily replaceable. The 2001+ ones are $40 or something like that for a whole new unit, the odler ones may be a little more (thats GM stock, you can find them elsewhere for less if you are so inclined).
If you have the two position memory package (the little yellow lights by the drivers side mirror controls that let you store two preferences for seat position etc...) just make sure you order the right fob. The car came with two fobs, there is often a big # embossed into the plastic on the back of the fob, so if you broke #1 order a #1. Nothing bad happens if you wind up with two #1's or two #2's, you just wont be able to recall a second set of preferences with the fob as they would both recall the same set, everything else (doors, etc) will work the same.
When you get the new fob, training it is done through the DIC (the display over the steering colum), just go into options and train remote, press button, done.
Post a WTB thread in the C5 and C6 for sale/wanted forum. I know I never have both mine with my trade in when I make those impulsive new car purchases.

The numbers is just a ref point for you, The fob can be programed for 1 or 2, It doesn't matter what number is on the fob, You can program up to 3 fobs on the system, on the door button 1, 2 or you can program a 3rd by pushing both buttons.

Is it just the casing?
We have the covers at one of the lowest prices around.
The one you got on ebay won't work on a 2000 model. The older ones are much more expensive.

If it's just the case, I'd post in the parts for sale section and maybe someone with a non working 97 thru 2000 fob would sell/give you a back for yours. Worth a shot. If not, Gene Culley has new ones for sale here on the forum for the 2000 for $59. Good luck.
