Default Quick Header Question?

I was looking at the American Racing headers forr the Corvette. Other than the looks, is coating the headers (Jet Hot, etc.) worth it for the heat or anything? Thanks!

I hope whoever answers this question has documented proof that it is or isn't, ie a scientific analysis of hp of both after having run the motor of an hour or whatever to take ambient, under hood temps and block temps to see if it really is worth it or not...

But something tells me you're going to get a bunch of opinions with, " 'cuz it dun jus work man, I seen it in action!" kind of replies. Good luck.

My underhood temps with coated headers are noticeably cooler versus stock exhaust manifolds.

I was searching around earlier and most people say that it's mostly for looks, no really worth it for the temperature. But I figured, if they do indeed make the car run cooler, I might as well coat them before I put them on. Any other opinions? Appreciate it!

Default Quick Header Question?

Can't tell you as of yet,
My ARH 1 7/8" just arrived friday and then drove them to a coating place just N. of my house, they coat parts for Jet Aircraft and the military and they told me they'd coat 'em inside and out,
They also told me that their coating was a much better insulater than Jethot and good to 1800*
and they gave me a better price than Jethot also I saved on shipping.
After mine are installed I'm going to shoot them with an inferred thermometer to see what the temp is, Then after that I am going to shoot someone else's un-coated headers and see what the results are.
If I was you I would consider Kooks too, they make a fine product
I only bought my ARH headers because I found an error on one of the on-line parts store sites and wound up buying them for $200 less than anywhere else,

Bon

This is exactly what I was referring to in my post above. Thanks vette0009 for your idea and response.

Mark, exactly how noticable? I 'notice' a difference in my car after an oil change but I'm sure it's just a placebo.

Did your engine temps drop 10-20 degrees F? 50 degrees F? 100 degrees F? How exactly do you notice under hood temps? I don't remember there being a DIC readout for it. Did you put a thermometer in there? Did you test during the same day or same ambient temps? Same speeds? Same duration? What were your temps before and after? If you didn't test the difference, how could you feel comfortable making those kinds of statements without any kind of support?

Not trying to be a abrasive; I just think it's a wise idea to figure out if what you're spending money on is adding value or if it's simply snake oil.
