Hello all,
First off, thanks for the info you all share here. I just bought an '02 black/black m6 coupe that is giving me face cramps as I drive it.
It is very intimidating reading all the possible issues of the car you have your heart set on buying. ( I know, all cars have issues). After lurking thru as many posts as I can the biggest thing I have learned is with the proper knowledge you can work thru the issues you discover and be proactive with the potential ones.
For other would be owners, read and learn and buy your dream car!
Thanks to 8VETTE7 for the endless answers on the CLB issue an his excellent explanations. My car only had the 2mph reprogramming done so off to the Corvettes of Houston website an I installed the CLB. Just a note on the instructions. As soon as you plug in the cig. lighter plug It will retract the pin as the lighter is always hot. The instructions state that it will retract after you turn the key on. Just my first little bit of info to give back to potential buyers. I also got the pull key message after the install and it was a long few minutes with the battery disconnected in anticipation of a faultless install which it was. I also have the oil sensor issue and will take care of it over the winter.
Ok, long enough, Thanks again to all and good luck to those who are trying to decide if the C5 is right for them. I say "GO FOR IT!
The thing you always have to remember about vehicle forums. Is most people get on here to post problems. Very few are true advocates and it 100% misrepresents the trouble.
If 80% of the people are on the forums to get a problem solved then it looks like 80% of the cars have issues when really that group is a very small subset of the overall community.
Also you always have to take age into consideration. No matter how much they try, it's hard to design and produce a car in a few years and expect to know what possible issues might arise after the car turns 8+ years etc.
Oh and congrats on the purchase. I just nabbed a 2002 Yellow Couple M6 and love it. It has a lot of quirks I've read about on here but hey, gives me something to do .
2002 blk/blk m6 coupe here too! absolutely beautiful cars. got it in april earlier this year and has yet to give me a problem or remove the smile from my face. I slapped some heads and a cam in it and now its quadruple the fun. Congrats!
Congrats on the C5. Don't be put off by the endless lists of problems. If you think positive, most of the problems you're likely to face can be fixed cheaply by using the info you'll find here.
Congrats,,It's getting close to two years since I got my C5,,,drive it ALL the time,,and it STILL makes me grin big time!!! WAS really looking forward to taking to taking it to Atlanta tomorrow for Turkey Day with the the wife's sister and all. Found out we have to bring an Aunt back,,and now have to take the F150 super crew!! You will find out soon,,that no only are these great cars for fun driving,,,,they are GREAT road cars as well!!! The wife says it's the best car for trips that we've ever had!!! ENJOY!!!
I went to get a price on getting my seat bolster vinyl piece replaced at an auto upholstery shop today. Mine is worn but not torn, anyway he quoted me $100 to replace it. That sounded pretty reasonable to me. I told him in January I will remove the seat and take it to him. Does that fall in line with prices others have heard of for the repair? I have the sport seats if that should make a difference. He knew about the fiberglass piece that could also break.
He is a "seasoned" shop owner and told me of many other (insert your choice of explicatives) Corvette seats he has repaired then proceeded to tell me old horror stories for the next hour. Very entertaining. He also comes highly recommended which means a lot to me.
