Well we've had the start of below freezing weather here in Chicago and yesterday my car started actin up. It seems to struggle to start so I figured it was a battery or alternator issue. But today I also noticed that my mpg's dropped quite a bit. I have no idea what that could mean so I appreciate everyones help in advance. Any ideas guys?
Strange...the engine should be running great after a short warm up period when the weather turns cold...cold air is more dense and you get more power What kind of oil are you using? Indy
If you can, get a code reader and see what codes have set, But the car was engineered to run in really sub-freezing temps. so i think one of you sensors is broken.
Batteries are typically damaged by high-temperature conditions but don't show their weakened condition until the temps drop. This is when oil thickens and current demands increase. I suspect it's time to replace your battery.
Regarding gas mileage: Your mileage will always suffer during cold weather months. This is perfectly normal.

It hasn't gotten that cold here yet for this to be a symptom, but could be in much colder temps. The lowest it's been so far has been around 27 or 28 overnight. My guess is it's time for a new battery. If it's over 3-4 years old it would be best to replace it and take that out of the hard starting equation. As for the mpg, that's hard to say.
