Default Another dumb C5 question.......

I hate to be such a noob, but I've only had the chance to drive the C5 vert once since I got it. And the "shift" light came on and of course I was over 2k rpm's and it went right into 2nd gear.
If the car has the bypass switch installed, will the light still come on the dash ?

In other words I could have the switch but not know it I guess....

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.....

Yes, you will still see the 4th gear message.

With the CAGS bypass installed, you will still see the 1 to 4 Skip Shift light. If the feature gets turned off by someone with a TECH II tool, or with HP Tuners, the light doesn't come on anymore.

Yap, I see it sometimes, but with the skip shift eliminator, stick will always slide into 2nd

Pretty sure that if you were OVER 2000 RPM's as you say, (or above 19mph) then with OR without the elimiator your shifter will go to 2nd gear.

You really shouldn't be even thinking of shifting to 2nd yet before you have reached 20mph.. Shift above 19 and this thing will never try to push you to 4th gear. That's the easiest way to defeat the CAGS

Here'a the situation where CAGS is dangerous, you are in bumper to bumper traffic and stopped at a traffic light. You are several cars back. As the light turns green the other cars pull out slowly at their pace and as the Vette starts out trying to push it in first to get out of skip shift mode you find you are approaching the slower accelerating vehicle(s) in front of you, just as you think you can get into 2nd Skip Shift is there preventing that and you pause momentarily to move to fourth. In that moment, the vehicle coming up behind you has no indication you are pausing in your acceleration and they will nearly take your rear end off before they realize you stopped accelerating.

The Vette with its gearing and torque just out accelerates normal cars on the road and you have less control with CAGS. Thank gawd for those who made the by-pass module.

WHAT??????????

Don't be in a hurry to get past the skip shift mode? Take your time when in stop and go traffic, as you should with any vehicle... and you will not approach the slow traffic in front of you. You should be keeping pace with the traffic you are in no matter what you are driving, NOT pushing your car becasue you want to get past the skip shift. You'll eventually get past it..... What's the hurry to get to 2nd gear? Go to it when it's appropriate. You are trying to get there too soon in the instance you describe.

I've seen so many replies to this CAGS thing over the years and it's really just people trying to shift too early.

I guess you guys just need that eliminator thing...... It's so easy to drive these cars without this thing being an issue..

Early shift = saving gas. That's why. The CAGS skip shift eliminator was the very first mod I made. When HP tuners had V2.0 or later my friend bought one and then I eliminated it from the program. Also set my skip light to 6Krpm for shift light. Need to move it up to 6500 now.

CAGS is just a minor annoyance, once you get used to it you can easily drive with it. Just have to know where the rpm's need to be.

I use that cags light as a shift light now, except it comes on at 6700RPM thanks to my tuner...

You must have a CAGS eliminator installed and yes, the shift light will still come on.
