I had no choice one year but to leave my car covered and parked outside in the dead of winter in New England. I just started the car twice during the periods where the snow had melted enough for me to lift the car cover and open the door. It ran just fine.

It's a car. Not an oil painting...

You not listening. Don't start it unless your going to drive it for a good period of time. The oil does not need to circulate till your ready to use it. When you start it it takes a while after reaching operating tempature
to burn off any water/ condensation. Circulating bad oil w/ water in it is bad for your motor and you are just mixing it in and running the motor w/ it. That's why short trip cars should change their oil more often because it isn';t running long enough to burn off the water. Your oil has to reach over 200 degrees for that to even start.

Wow, I had no idea that you had to do all that to keep a car over the winter. We don't get any snow or cold weather so we drive them all the time but you guys have really thought out how to store the car over the winter.

Actually, starting the car once amonth and running it for just a few minutes is a good idea. Today's gas often has ethanol in it and when it sits in your injectors for long periods, it is known to gum up the system. A simple start and short run clears out the gas and keeps the varnish from forming. Ask any mechanic that knows folks that store their cars for long periods.

They will not hold the road and your just asking to have an accident.
I just took my car for a ride 30min ago in 28* weather and beat the snot out of it. Amazingly, I didn't crash. I also took several on and off ramps at 50+ without a hitch.

Yes, while that is an issue there are too many down sides to starting the car for a few minutes, especially in cold weather. 75% of engine wear is at cold start up plus the oil and water issue. To combat that issue a gas stabilizer is the answer. Stabil. There are many things to do for storage and alot has been said here about it, but starting it is not one of them.
