Default Things I've learned...

After a year of Vette ownership...

Think your mods over before you do them, they can actually suck sometimes.

People apparently think Vettes have Superman brakes, because they pull right out in front of you(expecting"the bird" apparently ,because they're not surprised when it is displayed)

The local "green" health food store will take exception to you parking in the "Hybrids Only" spot ("I've got your hybrid, right here")

The general public thinks you're rich, because you drive a Vette.(C3,C4,C5,C6,--wtf is that??)

If it breaks,"It not be cheap" to fix(unless you prowl the bottomless knowledgebase of the Corvette Forum)

You,Your Vette, and some good tunes on the CD player, and an early morning mountain road(or any road, for that matter),are one of the few "good things" that make you feel like it's all been worth it .

Your wife can roll her eyes back alot farther than you've ever seen before. (Yes,a dirty alternator DOES bother me)...

Your wife will actually tell you when "something dripped out of your car last night",because she really does care.

While it's true that a Vette is "just a car", you and I know that it represents more than that- It's as American as you can get, It's a damn fine vehicle, and it was designed for you and me-and that's working out pretty well,IMO

There's more, maybe someone will pick up the ball...

I have learned that it is way more car than I thought it would be and I'm so glad I spent a little more money and bought it over the C4. It is such a better car.

It was spewed from the corporate culture, over constant protest, that produced sameness and mediocrity. Yet it continued, as America, through trial and tribulation to reach for greatness. It is not a car for the "It all pays the same" individual, rather for ones who aspire for greater things available to those that strive tirelessly. It is not just a car......

A vette will attract the young kids that are dreamers and car enthusiat and it will also attract a gold digger, a hoochie and the thumbs up. You will be the envy of your co workers when they strike up a conversation not knowing what L-82 or LS1 means. Many will ask if that is the new model yet all it is just a clean vette 10 years old with a little wax and some tire shine and some CCW's. Many will ask does it ride rough because it is so low not knowing we lowered it even more to get a more stiffer ride and better handling. Questions at car shows will go from , Does it really go 200mph? Does the roof top come out, how many gears does it have, do they make one with a back seat, wow I bet the insurance is so high. Bottom line its our toy, our baby, our side kick, our outlet when things go south, our fun when the sunshines, our passion and hobby we live for, our pride and glory, our machine transformed into a speechless pet with a name not elenaor more with names like Badazz, 2fast4-u, ...........

That the mod bug bites the hardest when you've got nowhere near enough spare cash to feed it.

I couldn't agree more with everything that has already been mentioned here, or be more proud to be part of a group who understands and appreciates the Vette not just for what it is---but for what it means.

These cars are street cars, once you mod them, it is a bottomless pit if you race, just like any other car......

Clutch, Built Rear End, Headers, CAI+,dynotune, bushings, sway bar, crank position sensor, etc. plus labor----about 6-8k in 8 weeks just from the track.

This does not include the new slotted/drilled brakes and pads, or other little things.

Otherwise, great cars.

I've learned that the car itself is a gold digger.

I bought it, happy as a clam to keep it the way it was. Well, since last year...

$2000+ for new, upgraded interior;
$800+ in detailing supplies and good waxes, etc.
$1000 or so in other things (aftermarket brakes, etc.)
$1500 for headers, being ordered tomorrow
$300 for vararam
$400 for tune / t-stat / s/h / etc...

then of course it wants new tires ($1000) and a new sound system($????.??)

and of course once i have the headers, the next thing I know my car will be asking for a cam.

But the best part is... all these things make me

I had this great idea

I thought I'd buy a $60k sports car that needed extensive modifications to let me use it in my home country. I'd ship it 6000 miles on a boat and use it in a place where gas costs $7 a gallon plus

Great Plan

Oh yes. The Corvette has a strange effect on you
