I have an '03 QuickSilver 50th. It has the stock tire sizes:
245/45-17 fronts
275/40-18 rears
I am in the market to purchase a different set of 'rears'. I am considering my options and need some thoughts.
I am thinking I want to go up a size on the rears to '285's.
Now the question is what profile size should I go with.
Actually I would like to lower the rear slightly if possible thru a smaller profile tire, like say a 30-series or a 35-series. But I am lacking in the in-depth knowledge of the ramifications of changing from the stock 40-series 18's to the smaller profile 35 and 30 series tires.
Thanks and any input would be appreciated so I can make an "informed" decision.
Just remember that you want to keep the rear tire taller so that it spins slower than the front so that you do not run into any traction control issues.

Sir, you just saved me several Hundred Dollars.
I used your nifty-difty tire size calculator and found out that if I go anything less than the 40-series, I would in fact be creating the problem situation you were warning of.
I thank you, my brother thanks you, my wife thanks you and my gardener thanks you.
Thank you for the compliment. I was lucky to find this car about 4 months ago with 8k miles on it at a local Chevy dealer. The dealer ordered it new. It has a factory installed LS6 with an automatic.
I have no idea. I did'nt order the car that way, the dealer did it some how.
Don't mean to doubt you or your dealer but you might wont to run the Vin. to verify that Ls6 order. All rpo codes should be listed inside the glove box, this will tell you any options ordered. If it is a factory Ls6 coupe than you got yourself one of a kind car.

The eighth digit in the VIN denotes the engine - if it is a factory LS6, that eighth digit should be an "S". If it is an LS1, it will be a "G".
It may be a brand new LS6 - but I find it a little difficult to believe that it was factory installed. I suppose anything is possible, though.
