I need to get a new clutch on my car, how hard is it to install a clutch on a Z06, I'm tryin to save money, thats why Im asking, has anyone done this or is this something u dnt mess with and have a profesional do it.
Not for the faint of heart. Access the clutch by removing the complete rear suspension, cradle, differential, transmission, complete exhaust, tunnel plate, driveshaft and then the bell housing (and all the related plumbing and electrical connections).
Its a pretty big task if you have never done one before, and it makes it even worse if dont have a lift. I might be able to get a pretty good deal on an install if your interested, the shop is in Suisun City (about 1- 1.5 hours north of SJ). PM me.
Did it by myself unassisted in my garage with no lift and hand tools only.
It was fairly straight forward, have to go slow and double check things on the way out and back in (fuel lines, brake lines, wiring harness). You will need two transmission jacks and a couple of floor jacks to make things easier. I removed the cradle separately and then the whole torque tube, tranny and rearend all out/in as one.
If I had to do it all over again, I would have also replaced the torque tube rubber attachments as well.
And it took me about 10 months or so in my spare time (wife had a baby so working on one of the cars was a luxury)
