[Z06] Warning Marrone Pines
I'll fill in the details later... but I need to talk to Maroone Monday morning and discuss the situation with them first.

Took my car in this past Saturday for an oil change. 5th time using Maroone in about 5600 miles with no problems (yes that's five oil changes). Also took it to them for the brake booster issue and they also installed my '02 shocks without a hitch.
Usually GM mails me a coupon too to save about $20 but I guess with the economy the way it is they haven't been doing the coupons so I had to pay full price... $72. But I'm old school... oil change every 3 months regardless. So I took it in.
I like Maroone in Coconut Creek because they have this oil change station where you drive the car up onto a platform and the platform is lifted to do the oil change... cool. They tell me today that they were full so that's why they had to use a regular car lift... my tragedy. :(
They did the oil change... in and out in no time and great service as usual. I drive the car straight home and leave the car in the garage. Later that evening I thought about the car lift, thought about the horror stories of car lifts so, just for peace of mind, I check the underside of the car.
         My rocker panel is gouged!         :mad :mad
Luckily not cracked but a small gouge the size of a pencil eraser in my passenger side.
Well, it was Saturday nite so I couldn't do anything but email a compaint on GMs site, Lou Bachrodt's site, leave a late nite voice message with the service guy and just wait for monday morning.
Monday morn comes in. The service guy calls me at 7am to tell me he got my message and to stop by after 8am to talk to the Service Manager. I come in at 8am and talk to the Service Manager. I tell him my story. I tell him in no way could it been caused beforehand because I had waxed the car and made it a point to check the rocker panel before sending it in. He puts the car on a lift (the platform lift this time :)), inspects the damage and agrees that it must have gotten caught on the lift.
Resolution? A refund on the oil change as requested in my voice message and I am to make arrangements to take it to a bodyshop to have the gouge repaired under warranty. The bodyshop is not their own but an outsource that also handles Champion Porsche's clients so I'm ok with that.
Moral of the story? Even though the service department should be aware, after 5 years of the C5 being out and handling Corvette's every day, that they should be careful of the rocker panels when putting a Vette on a lift. But accidents happen. Sure, I was upset when I first saw the gouge... if anyone is going to put a gouge or scratch on it, I rather it was me. But I hold back getting mad until I have let the other person have their say and after a long weekend, fortunately, the Service manger and, especially, the regular service guy I usually deal with (Judah), have been professional and dealt with my problem accordingly and quickly so that lessens the pain.
Will I go back? If I don't make a point to go out and buy jacks and stands and stuff and start doing the oil changes myself like I've been telling myself to do for the longest time... yes. I do have a good relationship with the service people there (very important consideration) and if I had to choose a decent Service Department for waranty work or even regular service, the Coconut Creek location is better than any other I've seen so far... even after this.
Now the Greenacre (Lake Worth) Chevrolet dealer where I bought my Z is a different story... I wouldn't take my car back to their Service Department for any reason.
Now if they didn't help me today? This whole story would be different and I would have be opening a big can of WHOOPbutt right now :)
But I also think that I am probably going to make a better effort and try to do the oil changes myself.
Sorry the story was so long.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

With my previous cars or motorcycles, I was happy enough with a change every 3000 miles cause I put a lot of miles on them and could put 3000 in 3 months very easily. Also, there may have been other reasons to change frequently like maintaining a Vortech on the 'Stang and mods on the Ninjas and I do find it hard to justify it on the Z if I look at it on a miles/change basis.
I also changed the tranny and rear oil very early too and even though the books say you don't have to either, I think that a few people out there will agree that it is well worth it along with very early oil change.
People have commented on the seeing the contamination in the rear gear oil after only a couple thousand miles probably due to the breakin and inital meshing of the gears and also some, like me, will say they have noticed an improvement in shifting and noticed an added smoothness in the rear gear or in the engine after changing the fluids.
But I changed the engine oil a lot for peace of mind because there is nothing the best oils can do about contamination. So to change it every few months to maintain a fresh fill I consider cheap insurance and is ok with me. :)
But I am gonna look into doing the changes myself and looking into jacks and/or lifts.

1. 1972 Vega (oil consumption)
2. A couple of my many drag race car engines broke (not contaminted oil related as I changed oil in those cars after every weekend of racing)
3. So I have peace of mind in following the manufacturers oil change recomended schedule.
