Glad to hear the various opinions.
That's one of those things you always question....
whether or not to trade or sell our C5's for the newer C6's.
Personally, I've always loved the classic C5 looks over the edgier C6...
and you just can't beat the pop-up headlights. I guess I'm a traditionalist at heart!
Keep the opinions coming.

HP Performance is located at 888 Tower Road (First street on the left just past the railroad tracks if you're heading west on Allinson Rd.) in Mundelein. Stop by the shop some Saturday morning. A bunch of guys usually meet around 9 a.m. for coffee, donuts, and to talk about cars. It helps get us through the winter. I don't do any mechanical work, but I'm their "designated driver" for dyno runs. I live in Deerpath.

I have an 03 auto vert, and drove a 08 LS3 auto. I have to admit, the C6 felt a tad faster, but the styling alone wasn't worth the trade off...The C5 kills it in the looks department and performance was not significant enough for me to want one...perhaps driving the C6 Z06 before hand didn't help either. (Of course, I was never in the market for a base C6 anyways.)
I had the C5 out the other day with the top up in the freezing *** temps, and it still got tons of looks and compliments. It truely is a classic design. I'd take it over a base C6 any day.

I've very briefly driven a C6 ZO6. I've ridden in that ZO6, and also ridden in a C6 vert. The ZO6 is amazing. I was bothered in the vert by how badly the wind beat me up on the highway when the top was down. My C5 vert does not have that problem, the aerodynamics with the top down must be different in the C6.
I do like the looks fo the C6. If they made a C6 ZO6 convertible I'd be all over it. I absolutely LOVE the new GS vert. - get one with the M6 and you get a hand built engine with dry sump oil system.
That will most likely be my next vette.

I get to drive my girlfriends 08 auto paddles ls3 and I have driven her bros 07 6spd which made me want a vette. The 08 rides nice it has z51. Is packs a lot of power when I stomp on it, it feels. More luxorius and a lil bigger than my c5z that feels like an all out race car.

In August just past, I was on the fence between a c6 and a c5 (my first Corvette).
The c6's I test drove were in the range of 05 - 07's, all auto's (no sticks available at the time to test drive), some coupe's some verts.
C5's test drove were coupe's (auto's), vert's (stick) and Z06's.
AT THE TIME:
Appearance:
Wife liked the C5 better.
I preferred the C6 (I am not a big fan of the pop up headlights myself, but it has grown on me). I also liked the edgier (is that a word?) styling of the C6.
Performance:
C6's were comparable to the C5 coupe's.
C5Z just rocked: hard edged, raw horsepower/acceleration and handling.
I really wanted a C5 Vert since I couldn't afford the C6 Vert.
But after the C5Z: I happily went with the moxie of the C5Z.
Price:
05 C6 coupes were running around $32K or so.
04 C5Z was $29K, verts around the same price range.
AFTER 4 MOS. OF OWNERSHIP:
While I like the C6's still, after ownership of the C5Z my next car will only be a C6Z. The "Z's" ROCK. Even though I dream of a vert some day (I have had 3), I can't get past the performance and exclusiveness of the "Z" models.
The wife doesn't like shifting anymore, but this is my dd and I personally love the driver engagement of a stick.
I have thought of going with a targa conversion on the C5Z, but it almost takes you to the price delta of a C6Z - to me it is a much better upgrade to go with a C6Z and live with the hard top only again (its the performance that I can't get by).

I have driven C6's and there isn't much of a difference between the C6 and the C5, Z06's excluded. The C6 interior seems a little smaller and maybe a slight bit quieter but not as stylish as the C5. The exterior is a matter of preference, both are nice.
I am not ready to give up my C5 anytime soon. The C5 is still the best looking car on the road in my opinion and turns my head more so than a C6. I also think the design of the C5 exterior as well as interior are the best looking of the generations. I probably will never sell my '99 but would love to have a C6Z or a C7SS. I will go FI with my LS1 someday.

I have both, 02 Z06 and 08 Z51 auto coupe, two different cars, 02 is raw power gocart like feeling and 08 is smooth, fast and good handling great for trips even though trunk is not as deep.

Went it to test drive one but once I saw the car up close I didn't care for the exterior design and left without driving. It could be the best driving car in the world but I'd prefer a car with exterior style.
Impatiently waiting for the C7 look to be unveiled... I want something more stylish like the change from the C4 to C5. The C5 to C6 change didn't do anything for me.

Over an 11 year span I've owned/driven multiple C5s and currently own both a C5 and a C6. The C6 is my third having previously had an 05, then 07 and now an 09. Each one of the C6s has been better than the one before it. I like the styling of both the C5 and C6, but the C5 does win in the styling contest for me.
The C6s drive very, very well and the 09 with the Z51 and the NPP exhaust is fully the equal of my C5Z which I sold when I bought it. IMO the C5 was a quantum leap over every generation of Corvettes before it. The C6 is merely a refinement of the C5, but it is a refinement and a definite step forward in almost every regard. I still very much enjoy my C5, but I enjoy my C6 just as much and maybe more.

I drove a 2005 C6, and it didn't seem much different than my C5. The dealership was giving me a 19k trade in on my baby, but I felt them so similar that it would have been worthless. A coworker test drove a 2007, and I drove it too. Same as the '05, so that left me non interested. On another note, I took a ride in an 06 Z, and that blew my mind, so when the cash is available I will have either a C6Z or a Viper in my garage. No base, z51, vert, regular C6 for me; just not worth the extra money compared to the C5. People still ask me if it's new haha.

IMO, the C5 drives better if you like to drive. If you're just out to cruise the C6 is better. The C6 is like driving a luxury car. It doesn't give you that much feed back compared to the C5. So if you're not really into the sports car part of the car and more into just the look, get a C6. If you want to feel the road and drive the car like it's meant to be driven, get a C5Z.

I have driven my buddies mildly modded C6 quite a bit. I have to admit, it does feel stronger that my car (we both have identical mods). I confirmed my feeling at the track... His car is faster & I have gotten used to the styling of the C6. (However IMO the C5's styling says PURE SEX!)
All that being said, NO WAY I would get rid of my car (way too much time & $$$ invested) for a C6. I would however, add a C6 to the stable! I feel it is the natural evolution of a model, they usually get better with every generation. Eventually the C6 guys will be having this same discussion about the C7....

I drove a C6 base and could have bought it for the same price I paid for my C5Z. In the end, I just couldn't get past the headlights on the C6.

I've driven a few C6s, both the LS2 and LS3 (6 speed and paddle shifter). The C6 feels much smoother. Personally, I prefer the rawness (if you can call a C5 raw) of the C5. Feels much more like a driver's car. I would buy a C5 Z06 over a regular C6. Then again, I haven't driven a C6 Z
