Check the DIC for codes
Buy a can of MAF cleaner at the auto parts store. First take a look to make sure the three wires in the middle of the sensor arent broke, then spray the sensor wires with the cleaner.
Just installing the vararam system, shouldnt cause surging...........Unless there is a air leak. Since you checked for air leaks, take it apart again, spray down the MAF, Double check the direction arrows and try it again. IF some of your silicon couplers are to short, you can buy 4" couplers at home depot that work.
