Default Shifter boot ring question

Hey all,
Ok I have been trying to look for a shifter boot and ring combo but I am bombing out. Basically getting the "back order with no eta" response.

So here is my question.....
What is the difference between the 6 speed model C5's mounting ring over the 97-04 years?
I mean could they have really changed it that much considering the center console doesnt look to have changed any.

Please help. Pictures would be great!

I'm pretty certain that the plastic retaining ring on the shifter boot from '97 through '04 manual transmission cars are all the same.

The problem is the retaining ring isn't available separately from GM so you have to order the C5 vinyl boot/ring as an assembly. It's not inexpensive.

You might get lucky and find one at a salvage yard or through the forum classifieds. I've seen them sell for $20 here for just the ring.

What is wrong with the old ring? I am running a new boot on my old ring that broke during the switch out I did. The old broken ring is holding up just fine. A tiny bit of glue and well placed stables for the new boot has survived several removals and reinstalls for other mods!

Well because the way this boot, ring shifter ****, and shifter went ii it is it all glued together. The ring is busted and when it comes out it will be busted and also all one piece with the shifter assembly. So I am trying to find a way to get a new setup for the new shifter and **** assembly i have going in.

I reused the stock one from my original boot.

Looking at parts list for the components, it appears that 99-04 are the same and 97-98 are the same.

Guess you will have to try suggestions above as well as searching the C5 parts forum for "parting out".

Good luck!

Would be nice if the ring was sold separately, but at this point, GM sure won't be bringing it out. And not sure it would be profitable for an aftermarket company to do it either.
