Anyone have any good mod ideas for mounting a detector on the A pillar or something? I did a search and the visor mount seems to be popular but in the vert it seems like this might get in the way with the top usage.
I had thought about something on the waterfall that could be used as a camera mount as well but then you couldn't see the detector readouts. Might look weird too.
I purchased the little cable that plugs into your detector and the back of your rear veiw mirror, which means in my coupe anyway that the detector (v-1) is right next to the mirror, works great and is not noticible to people walking by your car and is not in your way at all......I believe it;s forum vendor "corvette mods".
really very easy to install also/good instructions.
I mounted my V1 on a bracket that attaches to the rearview and love it. Go to http://www.cau-llc.com/valentine.htm and take a look. Wish I had known about the cable jaxdad refers to. I ran my cable from the passenger's floorwell. Kind of a pain but it works well.
I agree, I have the cord that plugs into the back of the rear view mirror and it is very clean and unobtrusive without blocking vision. I recommend it highly
I have tried many different mounting options over the years. My fav for Escort/Passports is just to glue the stock mount, less the suction cups, directly to the glass with silicone seal. Holds really well but can be removed with a razor blade.
But on my 99 I really wanted my new 9500i mounted on the far left corner of the windshield rather that under the visor on the right. And due to the compound curve of the glass in the corner area my glue on method would not work. So I modded a windshield GPS mount that has a single suction cup with a release lever to fit my 9500i.
All it took was some creative use of a heat gun and a few mods to the plastics of the mount. Now the 9500i sits just where I want it without interfering with my visor use at all.
BTW, I have used home made "invisicords" as well but on my stock mirror there is no real power off combo of wires, so I ran a dedicated cable from the ignition off accessory wires doen in the passenger's foot well.
Used one of these for two years with my 8500......but the location proved to be annoying to my wife during the Caravan as it blocked partial use of the visor and it was worse with the somewhat larger 9500i. But these are well made mounts. http://www.vettemods.com/radarbracket.htm

with an invisicord to the rear view mirror[/QUOTE]
Yes, it can interfere with the driver's sight lines. It's all based on the driver's sitting height in the car; the higher your sitting height, the more a detector mounted under the mirror (and the mirror for that matter) will block sight lines. This applies to level roads, with descending road situations being even more of a problem.
