how many vette people are using magnet oil plug and,or
magnet on oil filter?????
using a couple on the oil filter. one on the bottom and one on the side. real low tech just bought a couple of doughnut shaped high power magnets about the size between a quarter and half dollar and let it stick to the very bottom of the oil filter and the side of the filter about half way up. total cost a bit under $6.00. figure they are as good as any other magnetic device
I use FILTER MAG on our vehicles. Those things are super strong. I didn't want to add to the length of the filter where it might get knocked off with debris...
I have strong magnets from a computer hard drive on my filter. I've opened up a couple of filters after changing oil, hardly any crud in the magnet area.
I had a 2002 Trans Am Firehawk (LS1 engine) and it had a factory magnet drain plug.
It had the same look as all the other fasteners. I bought the car when it was one year old and the past owner wasn't an enthusiast so I don't think it was aftermarket.
Hmmm.
IMO, the plug didn't pick up much, I think that an oil filter magnet is the best way to catch metal. I plan to add one during my next change.... not really bothering with the drain plug.
