Need advice on tires
I just purchased my 1st vette and need to replace the tires. It is a 2001 conv with 15,000 miles. It has the original tires. I have been talking to a local tire store and they are recommending Michelin PS2. I have been told you get a much smoother ride when riding on non run flats.I am not the kind of driver that will be running the heck out of the car.Are the Michelin tires recommended a good tire. What other tires would be a good replacement. I would like to keep the replacement cost around $1,000.

I've heard really good things about the Hankooks... and they're cheap.

Yes, the Michelin PS2 tires are very good and you will notice a much smoother ride with non-runflats. Here's a list of some good tires for your car:
Runflats: Michelin, Firestone Firehawks.
Non-runflats: Michelin PS2, Firestone Wide Ovals, Goodyear GS-D3, General Exclaim UHP, BF Goodrich G Force TA KDW.
These are just my opinion - there are other tires out there that cost less and still do a good job.

Just Bought Tires
I just replaced my Goodyears with BF Goodrich all season performance tires from Tire Rack which I love. Go onto Tire Rack and read about the different tires for your corvette before you buy. They test tires and have great write ups. I can't tell where you live, but I live in the mid atlantic states and drive all year round except in snow. Riding on Summer Ultra Performance tires in winter on a bitter cold day is a scary thing as they provide little traction in extreme cold weather. That's why I went with an all season tire. You don't get the grip at the edge as you do with Summer Ultra Performance tires in hot weather, but I don't drive like that. Basically all the tires the others recommend are good choices, it all depends on where and how you drive. Also, I'm one who got rid of the run flats. A Triple A card and a tire repair kit (portable compressor, tire plugs, flashlight, wipes) is a lot cheaper than buying $400.00 a tire run flats that are NOISEY and don't ride as well as other less expensive performance tires. 4 years and no flats so far. But that's a personal choice. Good luck, but do the research before buying, don't go by the tire shop's advice only, remember his only real interest is profit not your well being or satisfaction.

Melting Slicks
I had Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS on before I got the CCW's. They were an incredible all season tire. Ride was much improved over stock. Right now I am on Pirelli P-zero Rossos. They are ok but I will probably go back to the Bridgestones in a month or so.
As for the summer tires offering little traction. I have been driving in this cold (between 15 and 30 degrees) for the last couple weeks and have not had any problems. A lot of it has to do with driver style and throttle control.

I had Goodyear GS-D3 tires on my C5 and loved them. If you drive in the rain, I don't think you'll find a better tire. Also very good in dry weather.

I read all the posts about tires I could find and compiled a long list of recommended tires. With head swimming, from the wealth of knowledge, and looking at several on their web sites I ordered a set of the BF Goodrich G Force TA KDWs . They seem to be scarce in the sizes I ordered and are not here yet. Two coming from Houston and two from South Carolina. I got new wheels from JWMotoring in Olla. and they are sitting in the garage begging for the new shoes.
Good luck. There seems to be man good choices.

My vette and yours are similar. Mine is an 01 Vert with 13k on it. I have the OEM tires in a corner of my garage. Like you I wanted something quiter, and smoother. I bought Vredsteins and love the looks as well as the other qualities mentioned earlier.
My 2nd choice would have been the Pilot Sports. They have gotten great reviews from alot of Vette owners and are readily available in most of the bigger tire shops.
Good luck with you choices!

tires
I put a new set of Bridgestone Potenza's (17/18's) on mine about two months ago. Very satisfied with them. No cold weather spinning problems with them at all, they hold. Nice smooth quite highway ride as well.

I also am trying to decide which tires for my '01 for the 1st time.(32k)..I was thinking i might get the Michelin PS2's non-runflats. or how about the Michelin A/S Pilot Sport Plus? . .Should the tire pressure sensors be replaced also? And how much are they? thks..

I've been running them for years and never cease to be amazed at how well they grip on both dry and wet roads - truly a phenominal tire.

How about cold weather? It's not exactly like the Arctic here in NC, but I don't want to be sliding around when it gets below 32..

How often does that happen? You would be sacrificing handling/traction most of the time if running all-season tires just because it gets below 32 occasionally.
