Default HID/LED Upgrade Question...

For those of you who have upgraded your fogs to HIDs and your rear lights/side markers, etc. to LED, did you need to turn off the settings to have the lights turn on/flash when you unlock and lock your car via the keyfob?

I had read earlier that this option is particuarly bad for the HID fogs as they take longer to warm up than standard halogen. Is that true? If so, what settings on the DIC did you set your alarm/remote entry to?

Thanks!

I installed some OEM Fog lights with HIDs on my 03Z06. I then turned the flash/Alarm setting off so that they don't flash when I lock/unlock the car, as it is bad for the HIDs. Ileft it off with no horn or light flash.

To be honest, the HID Fog lights only "look" good. The beam pattern is too spread out for my liking. We have pretty mild weather here, so I don't need lighting for bad weather. I was hoping that these lights would give me some better lighting for driving.

I may be swapping out them out for something with a tighter beam pattern.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm suprised however because most guys I've talked with who upgraded their OEM fogs to HID fogs noticed a considerable improvement and some of them even told me they rarely use their pop up headlights during city/suburban driving anymore due to the light emitted from their HID fogs.

I've heard the same thing....I've just put in HID lows and have been considering the fogs, just not sure if I want a 6k bulb or yellow...

I should have mentioned that I already have HID low beams. Adding HID fogs weren't an improvement. But compared to the horrible stock lows ANYTHING would be an improvment.

If your car is a daily driver, 3000K yellow is the way to go, especially for poor weather.

I have both HID headlights and fogs, 6000k...I turned off the lock / unlock fogs too because I've heard that quick flash may shorten the life of the ballast/bulb, because it takes alot of power to fire up the HIDs and IMO doing the flash everytime is not healthy for the life of the HID kit

They were a huge improvement for me. You need to readjust your fogs and you will see more of a benefit.

Adjust them and they'll perform better.

I have been flashing my fogs for over a year and a half now. I've never had a problem with them. I'm still on the same ballasts and bulbs.

I turned off the feature so I wouldn't flash my HID fogs.

hmmm. I have never heard about the flashing of the fog bulb shortening bulb life... but i did just burn one out after two years... it was replaced under warranty...

I am one of those that doesn't use my low beams in town now that I installed HID fogs...

For HID's I don't think its good to flash them so I turned the flashing and approach lights off. I just kept the horn on for when I lock my doors
