Default steering lock issue

When I bought my car the previous owner must of removed the steering lock, because it never locks when you pull the key.
I just had some work done to my car (cam, suspension and clutch) and all of a sudden The "service column lock" message appears. I don't have a lock! I have tried to remove this code by the DIC method. It goes away until I turn off the car and then it appears again when I start it. I had heard that if I disconnect the battery for a short time that this will solve the problem. Any truth to this?
Thanks
Don

I'd go after the Corvettes of Houston CLB.
I dicked around with the factory fix on the recall notice, never fixed the problem.
Put in the above, and voila, problem solved, never seen the message again. $50 or so and you are done with the problem.

Default Dont let the dealer touch it

Whatever you do don,t let the dealer touch your car. If they try to fix it they will reprogram the computer and you will loose your tune. Happened to me $400 down the drain. Get the CLB. New tune for me in the spring.

First, get the CLB as suggested above. Even with that you may still have problems, check the column lock sticky in the C5 Tech section. Click Here

If disconnecting the battery doesn't reset, try pulling fuses BCM #23 & #25 (located in the passenger footwell) with the key on.

Thanks Guy's!
Don't need the CLB. Don't have a column lock! In 5 years never had this problem.
Blue Blood; I was looking for what you said in the stickies about the fuses. Must of missed them. Thanks, This is the info I needed.

I've seen a couple of posts like this. You guys don't have your tunes backed up so you can just reflash it? If you don't have the hardware to do it yourself the tuner should have these backed up. No way should you have to have the car retuned.

Dude!

In your original post you said "I just had some work done to my car (cam, suspension and clutch) and all of a sudden The "service column lock" message appears."

I had the factory so called fix done even though my car was not having any symptoms (when I first purchased it used last year and the final recall was not completed on it, so I did it since it was free). After the final recall work, I started having this message come up.
Even though your steering may not be able to lock (that's if the locking mechanism has been removed), it can still kill the fuel pump after I believe you exceed 2 or 5 mph.

What I am saying is: Get the CLB and be done with it.

Don't fight it, just get it and have the peace of mind.

After I did the CLB after all the recalls, no more messages, no nothing.... Enough said.

I've had the recalls done, I have the CLB installed, and still had the car shut down last week when the charge on the battery went down while installing a new 2 DIN nav unit. My point is that even with all of this, you may still have problems and end up having to bypass GM's fixes.

Default No back up

No back up on my tune. I will ask them to give me a backup if they can when I retune in the spring. I will definately go back to them the tune was awesome. 404 HP at the wheels with Intake and headers only. They really did a detailed tune.
My wheel never locked and when the service steering lock came on I brought it to the dealer since I have a warranty on the car. They charged $480 to put in the new harness and relay(recall fix which you have to pay for now) I told them not to touch the computer but they flashed it anyway and my tune was gone. Two weeks later the wheel locked up. Never happened before. Had to have car flatbedded to the dealer. This time they put in a whole new lock assemble. $680
Thank god for the extended warranty. Saved over $1000. But need to spend for a new tune.
I still dont trust it and have bought a CLB and will install it when car is out of storage.
I have an idea that the lock never worked and when the put in the new harness and relay they made the defective lock mechanism start working and it locked up. Who knows?
