Default Thinking about a c5 Z06

Hey guys my names Cole and I'm new to this forum. I ccurrently have a 2008 Subaru STi and am considering trading it in or out right selling it for a Z06 and a daily beater. One huge factor to this is my age I'm only 18 so would i get killed by my insurance. My record is not as clean as I would like. I got a 50 in a 30 in december but it was reduced to Failure to Obey a Traffic device.

I also auto-x alot. What classes are you guys running in and do you have trouble with STi's and Evo's? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Heres my current baby:

Do it!! Believe it or not, insurance will probably be cheaper than it is on your STI! There's a guy on here that recently went from an STI to a C5Z and he could not be happier.

You have two problems with making a move from what I can see. 1st, you are only 18 yrs old and that factor alone would raise your insurance quite a bit moving into a Z06. 2nd, you have quite a few blips/points on your record that will raise your insurance rates even higher, and thats presuming you can get an insurance company to cover you. In some cases , if you move from your current car to a ZO6 , you run the possibility of being dropped and then you'll have to go insurance shopping which will guarantee that your rates will be a lot higher. Clean up your driving record and maybe try it again in at least 3 yrs, because thats the minimum time its going to take to remove faults from your record. Its not that I wouldnt want to see another happy Z owner, but it looks as if the money you would have to put out plus the possibility or having higher rates/or getting dropped isnt worth it.

What he said. I remember being 18 and almost forcing myself to get a vette...it wasn't right, and I'm glad I didn't. (now I'm 32)...I'd say hold off. Advice: Mature at the wheel. Stop getting tickets, let your record clean up, and when its financially feasable (insurance)...go for it.

The 50 in a 30 was dropped to the failure to obey the traffic device. I only have a failure to obey a traffic device on my record other than that its clean, except for a few loud exhaust tickets but those don't matter.

Go for it, there is something about a vette that is great for driving. Sexy lines plus a high level of performance, considering that the design is almost ten years old now. You can drive an awesome car for about 20 - 25 thousand. I bought mine new, and paid a lot of money. But now, these things are cheaper than a Honda civic................. It's a no brainer for a car guy.

I wish I was able to buy mine at an earlier age.

Live it up.

I bought my first C5Z when I turned 20 and had 6 out of 12 points on my license....my insurance was like $135/month (yes, full coverage in my own name with a 2+ vehicle discount). I have a different C5Z now, im 22 and the insurance is only $150/month with a 98 in a 45 six point ticket.

Dont let the insurance stop you from anything!

It sounds like 69DC is getting whipped!$200 a month is a lot of money, especially for one Z. And by the way, my man with the STI, I would check with your insurance company before I did any thing rash. Every state/car ins co. has different ways of handling its business. For instance 69DC lives in Cali and paying $200 a month. Im only paying $80- full cov- and rental. And I live in the midwest. See my point?

The insurance drop from my 03 bugeye to the 02 Z06 was $12 and some change per month. Even being 18 I would still think the insurance would be cheaper number one reason being it's an older car.

In autox the vette and STi/EVO aren't in the same classes even with the new SCCA classes as far as I’ve read. For road course racing like Time Attack they are close.

If you get the Z06 plan on at least a season of adjustment to get the car figured out. It's a totally different experience and will force you to be a better driver. There’s no AWD and electronic devices to mask your mistakes. lol

The Z will be cheaper all the way around. Maintanance costs, replacement parts, go fast parts. And under certain situations , the insurance will be cheaper because Im sure the STI-EVO cars are stolen a lot ore than the corvette.

They are wrecked and broken in to a lot more which I would think has a factor on how high the premiums are.

Like said above the go fast parts for the most part are going to be cheaper or right about on par with the STi depending on what you're getting and you are starting with a better platform to mod than with the STi.
